1. Katedralskolan
Katedralskolan, or as it’s also called ”Katte”, was established in
1246 and is the oldest educational institution in Uppsala and
one of the oldest in Sweden.

2. History of the school
• History of the school:
• In 1509, Gustaf Eriksson, who would
later become “King Gustaf I” (Gustav
Vasa) became a student at the
school. He wasn’t too fond of
studying and ended up with him
driving a dagger through one of his
books and cursed his teacher. During
that time and up until mid-19th
century, there were three “trivial”
subjects that the education focused
on: Grammar, dialectics and rhetoric.
The school was called “Högre
allmänna läroverket” (higher-level
public education) until 1972.
The first female students were
accepted in 1930.

3. Today
• Today, Katedralskolan is an
gymnasium school and offers a
lot of different programs such
as IB or education within the
humanities and natural
science or advance in French,
German or Spanish.
• There are several societies for
the students to join in
Katedralskolan and the oldest
still existing one is
“Matematisk-
naturvetenskapliga
föreningen” (MNF), founded in
1899.
