  1. Start by seeing what we can achieve with blogs, then review this to see if there is a need for or advantage to creating a wiki. Blogger as it seemed to have all of the functionality we are after.  (Settings can be adjusted for receiving comments, RSS feeds are easy to set up). Set format = Westminstersubject    Raise profile – market ourselves and our resources to our users Community building – encourage comments, interaction, feedback Content will be focused on resources, both internal and external, and style will be determined by the creator. We won’t publicise the blogs to users while we get them up and running, but we will share them with each other to exchange ideas and options.   
  2. What is a blog? 250 contacted 16 responded (only 1 didn’t know what a blog was)   Mixed bag (undergrad, postgrad and research students)   Only 2 students wrote a blog   What blogs do they read and why? Micro-blogs Subject related (politics, fashion, art, IT and computer, architectural) General interest (fashion, sporting) Blogs that can help on what you want to look for Friends’ blogs   They like   Opinion/information on subject of the blog Political comment A trusted and valued opinions Fashion tips Shared experiences of studying the same subject and coping with it.
  3. Are you aware that the subject librarians write blogs?   ¼ knew librarians wrote blogs – all MAD   None of students read them   15/16 thought good idea for librarians to write blogs     What would you expect/like to see in a librarian’s blog?     Tips Tips on finding good books and journal articles     Reviews Book and articles   Introduce new book each week, short description about it, invitation for students’ opinions on whether the books helped them or not Updates on new books and technology Reflections on what they’ve read, latest updates in subject area   Links To interesting journal articles and information related websites   Reflections on what they’ve read     How accessible are the ALLs blogs?   Under ½ found blog links All found them difficult to find     Would you read them?   Yes - over half! Good first hand information Informative Good to know what’s going on in the field Good to compare opinions Out of interest   Maybe (1) If relevant to their work If content is of interest   No (6) Too difficult to find Low down on priority list Not the kind of blog interested in Already read lots of other blogs
