The webinar discussed the EPA's new Clean School Bus Program which provides $5 billion in funding to replace older diesel school buses with electric school buses. Key points:
- The program will provide large rebates to cover the costs of purchasing electric school buses and charging infrastructure.
- School districts, non-profits, and manufacturers can apply for funding between May-August 2022. Priority will be given to high-need districts.
- Winning applicants will receive funds upfront to purchase buses and have two years to acquire them and dispose of their old diesel buses.
- Resources were provided to help applicants understand the application process and requirements.

4. NEW FEDERAL CLEAN SCHOOL BUS PROGRAM (CSBP)
In November 2021, Congress passed the bipartisan
Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Act, including a record
$5 billion to replace older, polluting school buses with
cleaner and electric school buses.
That includes $2.5 billion in dedicated, standalone
funding for electric school buses (ESBs) and another
$2.5 billion for electric and low-emissions school buses.
Last month, EPA began releasing details about the
Clean School Bus Program and the first round of
rebates.
