Research Focus
My research focuses on the development and application of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in the
context of chronic illness. My interest in PRO reflects my conviction that patient-centered assessment
will lead to improvements in clinical care and health care policy. My primary focus is improving patient
assessment and behavioral intervention in the post-surgical context, specifically for organ donation and
transplantation (and conditions that may lead to transplantation, such as end-stage organ disease and
certain cancers.)
Clinical Focus
In my clinical role, I provide clinic- and hospital-based psychological evaluation and treatment at the
Northwestern University Comprehensive Transplant Center. Specifically, I provide input to the
clinical teams on the psychosocial suitability of potential liver, kidney, and lung recipients, as well as
potential living liver and kidney donors. As needed, I also provide treatment for patients and families
throughout the transplant/donation process.
