HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN
THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH AND
PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?
We started our documentary by planning what it would
contain and what our chosen subject would be. We
worked as a group to work out what we though would
be good subjects that are relatable to things now and
relevant to most teenagers, as they were are decided
target audience. To do this we started with a basic
brain storm. From that we chose “illegal downloading”
as our subject matter. From this we together and also
individually did research into the subject, we started of
with looking at a basic documentary characteristics
and the things you would find in a documentary such
as voiceover, vox pop’s , professional interviews etc.
we then used the internet and websites such as
YouTube, bbciplayer and 4ondemand as all these sites
allowed us to access past and present TV
documentary's and were able to see a wide variety
from ones made at home by people on YouTube to
ones that are professionally composed and
broadcasted on TV all for free, this allowed us to
understand they type of documentary we wanted to
broadcast, we chose a relaxed and relatable feel was
what we wanted and we wanted it to have a young and
youthful presentation.
PLANNING- DOCUMENTARY
We used the internet to research are
subject as we needed to be able to
provide facts and statistics for are
documentary otherwise it wouldn’t feel
like we were telling the truth about the
subject matter. We used websites such
as BBC news, Google, music lab, radio 1
etc. We also used the internet to contact
are professional interviewees too
arrange are interviews with them and
also emailed the questions via email
before the interview so that the interview
could potentially prepare for the
questions, giving us a very good
outcome of a strong interview. We also
used YouTube within the construction of
are documentary as background footage
to show the websites that people are
using to illegally download form.
RESEARCH
To create the documentary we used a
variety of media technologies to construct
everything into its complete stages. We
started with a basic video recorder and a tri-
pod to recorded are footage with, after every
filming session we had to lock and transfer
are footage to make sure it saved to our
final cut file on the apple mac’s where we all
had are own individual group folders where
we stored are footage ready for editing and
selection as a lot of the footage we recorded
we didn’t end up using as we had so much.
With the cameras we were able to adjust the
sound levels and the zoom and because we
had a tri-pod we could do pan shots and
high and low allowing us to have a variety
of camera angles and shots. We also had to
use headphone to make sure that when we
were filming the sound was also being
recorded, sometimes we had issues with the
headphones not working but we overcame
all these problems by team work and basic
knowledge within the group of how to adjust
the media technologies.
CONSTRUCTION
Once all our final footage had ben view and selected
we began editing in “final cut express” which is a
programme on the apple mac’s, we had drawn out a
storyboard of our documentary which allowed us to
create are documentary around that.. We were able to
add in editing transitions which we had a wide range
of and allowed us to give a smooth overall finish to
are documentary allowing it too look as professional
as possible.
