• A municipal Council in Palghar District
• 134 km from Mumbai
• Tribal area consisting mostly of Adivasi
communities
• A natural beauty and a tourist destination
• Near about 75% of Jawahar is covered with
forest
• BAIF – Helped us plan our course action

Reality…
• People welcomed us in their homes as well as their
hearts
• They are happy and thankful for what they have
• They are hopeful for better tomorrow
• A lot of them are working towards sustainable
development of society

5. • There are different sub-communities
under Scheduled Tribes
• Some of them are : Tarkari, warli,
Katkari, Konkani
• Earlier, these people also had
community discrimination
• These community concentrated areas
have diverse political influences.
• Politics hampers growth of these
communities
• Usually there are joint families

• Marriage takes nearly 5
to 7 days to proceed

been reduced

• Warli community is
famous for its Warli
Paintings
• It depicts their daily life
activities and culture
• It’s a way of story telling
• Crafts include Tarpi,
Masks and Artifacts

8. Gender Inequality?
• There is no gender discriminations
• In fact, women are the decision
makers
• Women play Lead role in economic
and social activities
• Females consist of more than half of
population
• Every girl child is send to school

9. Food Habits
• All the community here is mostly dependent on RICE
• These people also consume Nachani, Bajari, Jawari
• Vegetables are subjected to cultivation and choice
• They also eat fish and meat

10. EDUCATION
• Almost every village here has a primary school
• Secondary and higher secondary schools are
widespread across.
• Jawahar is the nearest city for higher education
and graduation
• There are Residential Schools nearby funded by
different Trusts and Government

11. • Though Adivasis insist on cleanliness, there are very few sanitation and
healthcare options
• There are very few PHCs
• These PHCs have staff shortage
• Much need of Highly Qualified Doctors
• These PHCs also lack average healthcare facilities and equipments
