Use of modern communication technologies to disseminate health information
1. Use of modern communication
technologies to disseminate health
information
2. Think about it!
When was the last time you talked to a friend on a phone? Perhaps you text
messaged each other on the facebook. Or maybe you opted for the IM route,
exchanging LOLs over a hyperlink.
Some might had used skype for the group chat with the friends from school? A
few of you might had watched the USAID 5th Birthday Movie on reducing the
under five mortality on YouTube.
For those who had subscribed to various online newsletter, journals and RSS
might had received the email alert of the latest news by this time on their
computers.
Can you remember the day when you first surfed the WHO website?
Have your ever read the blog, listened to the podcasts, or attended the webinar?

can be used to give alerts or early warning alarms concerning various emergencies such as epidemic, medical emergencies, weather-related disasters, accidents and crimes.
Cell phones also have the ability to send text messages which can be useful if the person you are contacting is not able to pick up the phone and talk.
Despite these difference the function is same.
Can be use to disseminate helath information
Wiithout computers and laptops all other modern communicatin are useless
E-mail involves sending messages via telecommunication links.
To be able to use E-mail all that one needs is an access to a network area, a PC, a telephone, a modern with its software and the basic knowledge of using this software, which is easy to acquire. One does not have to be a computer expert to be able to use E-mail nor does one need a separate telephone line for it.
With email, data files can be sent as attachments and web links can be included to allow recipients to access relevant information quickly.
There are various Social Networking Sites with their own special feature that can be used to disseminate health information. For. e.g. facebook, twitter, linkein, orkut, myspace, hi5. However, I am going to discuss on only few of them.
Two types of LIKE: one you can like the post other is you can LIKE the page
Some of the page worth LIKING are WHO, CDC, PHP, HSPH, JOHN HOPKINGS, USAID
Sharing can be done in different ways. You can share the post in your:
Own profile
Individual friends profile
Group profile
Page profile
If you want to let your followers know about health informaiton, type it in the 'What's happening' text box and then click on the 'Tweet' button. Note that tweets are limited to 140 characters or less; otherwise, the "Tweet" button will go into a minus.

Whats on your mind-whats happening
This social networking sites is merely for the professionals.
it is mainly used for professional networking
Additional benefit:
can then be used to find jobs, people and business opportunities recommended by someone in one's contact network.
Typical features of a web conference include:
Slide show presentations - where images are presented to the audience and markup tools and a remote mouse pointer are used to engage the audience while the presenter discusses slide content.
Live or Streaming video - where full motion webcam, digital video camera or multi-media files are pushed to the audience.
Meeting Recording - where presentation activity is recorded on the client side or server side for later viewing and/or distribution.
Whiteboard with annotation (allowing the presenter and/or attendees to highlight or mark items on the slide presentation. Or, simply make notes on a blank whiteboard.)
Text chat - For live question and answer sessions, limited to the people connected to the meeting. Text chat may be public (echo'ed to all participants) or private (between 2 participants).
Polls and surveys (allows the presenter to conduct questions with multiple choice answers directed to the audience) Screen sharing/desktop sharing/application sharing (where participants can view anything the presenter currently has shown on their screen. Some screen sharing applications allow for remote desktop control, allowing participants to manipulate the presenters screen, although this is not widely used.)
Most people are interested in many websites whose content changes on an unpredictable schedule. Examples of such websites are news sites, community and religious organization information pages, product information pages, medical websites, and weblogs. Repeatedly checking each website to see if there is any new content can be very tedious.
Email notification of changes was an early solution to this problem. Unfortunately, when you receive email notifications from multiple websites they are usually disorganized and can get overwhelming, and are often mistaken for spam.
Training and access to technology: it seems that minorities, the rural population, and older adults living at poverty levels are disadvantaged in their quest to obtain quality medical information due to lack of training and access to computers.
Usability and readability implies that fonts, background and foreground colors, and contrast on websites are used in a manner that makes reading easier.
Lack of privacy: A potential drawback of using cell phones and email is a lack of privacy. For instance, emails are saved on a computer, and oftentimes passwords are also saved, meaning other users of your computer might be able to gain access to your emails. Furthermore, you often use cell phones in public places where other people can hear your conversation, which can be awkward if the direction of the conversation becomes too personal. Emails are also considered informal, and do not carry the same degree of personal connection and care as receiving a hand-written note or letter.
Information overload: There are thousands of websites that provide health related information, making the Internet a confusing and intimidating source of information for many.
Safety: using cell phones while driving can cause accident. Similarly, using laptops on lap can make a man into infertile
