Question 6
1. What have you
learnt about
technologies from
the process of
constructing this
product?
2. Technologies we have used:
- Canon DSLREOS65D camera
- Flip cam
- LOGICXPRO
- Final cut pro
- imovie
We used many different technologies in order to attain our final product…
4. Blogging
- Blogging is the main thing I have learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing our thriller film opening.
- I had never blog before and so using ‘blogger.com’ was a whole new
experience.
- We used blogger to post all the information and research we did before making
our film.
- We also kept updating the blog with ideas and developments during the
production stage and then posted many construction posts during editing.
- This allowed us to keep a track of our progress but also let the readers come
into the making of our film, through reading the blog.
- It was really useful as we used it as a group blog but had separate accounts in
which we could all log in and blog individual posts under our name.
- This allowed us to have as much information on our blog as possible and
therefore make it more interesting for our viewers.
- As I said, I had never used a blog before, however I was easily able to get the
hang of using it very quickly.
- I learnt how to post images, pieces of text, slideshares, prezi’s and much more
extremely fast as ‘blogger.com’ was so easy to use.
5. Searching and planning
- During pre-production we research and planned a lot of
information to help us create the best thriller film opening
possible.
- We used focus groups and interviews to gather the information
we required.
- When filming our focus group we used a flip camera as it is small
and portable whilst also providing HD quality and being easy to
plug into a computer through an attached USB.
- However, the flip camera only gives limited zoom but this wasn’t
a problem when filming interviews and focus groups, like this
one.
- Although the flip camera is extremely small and easy to use the
limited zoom stopped us using it for our real thriller film. Instead
we used a Canon DSLREOS65D camera.
7. Strengths of the camera equipment:
- The digital camera we used allowed you to watch the clip you
had just filmed back straight away. This was really useful as we were able to
watch the clip and decide if we wanted to re take it or not. Providing us with
overall better quality clips.
- Also the way in which the clips we filmed saved straight on to the memory
card was extremely practical when it came to editing; we were able to simply remove the card from
the camera and slide it into the computer.
- We used the Canon Camera when filming our thriller openings; the camera gave extremely high
quality visuals and was able to easily capture all the shots we required for our opening.
- The camera was quite small and came in a compact carrier bag. This made it easy to travel with and
as the actual camera was relatively small we were able to get all of the hand held shots we
required.
- The camera was also very easy to use. The zoom and focus were easy to find and get the hang off
which was great for us as we specifically wanted some of our shots to be out of focus and jumpy to
add to the atmosphere we were trying to create.
- It was easy to attach the flash light to the camera and also easy to change the batteries within the
flash light when we needed to, and this was quite a lot as we were filming at night using the
darkness to add to the tension.
8. Weakness of the camera equipment:
- Although we mainly filmed using the flash light, we didn’t
always want to and would have liked to have filmed in very
low lighting. However, we could not due to the shots not
being visible as the camera wasn’t able pick up specific details
in extreme low lighting.
- Also as we were using digital technology, once you had
deleted the footage you could not get it back at all. We
accidently deleted a piece of footage that we wanted to put
into our opening as we mistook it for another clip and we
therefore had completely lost the footage and had to leave it
out of our end product.
10. Editing
- When we began editing videos for our blog, using bloggers.com, we were using
‘imovie’ and I had used this software before and so had a good idea on how to
use most of it. This allowed me to quickly and efficiently edit the interviews and
focus group videos.
- We used ‘imovie’ to edit our prelim however it didn’t have all the effects and
tools we need to perfect our thiller film opening and so instead used ‘Final Cut
Pro’ to do this.
- I had never used this program before and so as a group we had to get the hang
of it quickly. I found that it was quite easy to use and after using for a short
amount of time I feel I could confidently edit our opening.
- I quickly learnt how to make transactions between 2 shots on final cut pro and
edit in our soundtrack after using ‘LogicXPro’ to create it as a group, again
another program I had never used.
- We used ‘LogicXPro’ as a group to create our sound track. We connected the
keyboard to the computer and was able to play the keyboard and add sounds
to build the track.
