Creating video content for your institution can be far more inexpensive than expected. Creating dynamic content for with informal techniques can create casual dialogue and increase accessibility of content for visitors. Thinking about content, story, and method of delivery serves as a framework in this workshop on low budget documentation methods to develop unique and accessible content.

66. · The story is really unique and unexpected. Unexpected content is one of the three
ingredients for a successful viral according to Kevin Allocca in his great TED talk on what makes
videos go viral on YouTube, a lesson that also works for other forms of content.
· The story is told in the public space, in ‘active communities’. The streets, Facebook, general
media: all the places where the story happens are easily
accessible for most people and
designed to foster discussion. Unlike your own website or Tuesday night discussion group
people come to these places for stories and are, therefore, more likely to respond to them.
· The story is about the audience. The most important lesson I took from Nancy Duarte’s brilliant
book Resonate is to treat your audience as a hero whenever you tell them something. People
should not only be involved and directly addressed, it should be their
they are telling, to make it stand out. People usually listen to themselves.
story, the thing
· The story helps create real life connections, has a physical component. The most
heavily discussed issue in Leuven, I believe each great story in the digital age needs a physical
element to really turn people from simply interested into highly enthusiastic.

What is Video?Kind of like film... A series of images that when combined create the illusion of movement. These are then combined into a collection of movements that dialogue with one another to tell a story.Display and viewing technology completely recontextualizes how it functions
So your camera can look like this, shooting high quality video that puts your museum in context with Art 21 and other museum oriented documentary that is broadcast ready.
Or your camera can look like this.
This is video shot with an iPhone 4s, honestly it looks and sounds great
(especially knowing that it was shot like this!)This is Kristen Adsit, a variable objects conservator at the IMA, she has an iPhone perched on a tripod and a work light next to her that was dragged upstairs into the gallery from the conservation lab.

And this little guy which made for a big difference. This little cable let us connect an inexpensive lavalier microphone to the iPhone. I’ll come back to this.
LIGHT I s the basis of creating an imageItcan be hard to tell if ambient light is enough, unless in full sun it is hard to have too much light
Some really simple modes to do it on the cheap! The trick is finding a function for these cheap forms, making the content relate to the medium. The medium is the message if your medium doesn’t coordinate with your message. You may have a project that lets you play with some of the other exciting inexpensive tools available to us now that cameras are everywhere!

But wait, why are we making a video?
Think about what is unique about the information that can be revealed better through video than any other way!
