2. Acceptance of deeds
1- Pure
2- Legal
“ And whoever hopes for the meeting with his
Lord, let him do righteous work, and make
none sharer of the worship due to His Lord”
18:110
2
3. What is Purification – Al-Ikhlas ?
Free of other debris
Without Blemish
Not in mixture
“ And in the cattle there is a lesson for you. We
give you to drink of that which is in their
bellies, from between the refuse and the
blood, pure milk palatable to the drinkers “
16:66
3
4. “ And they were not commanded
except to worship Allah, being
sincere to Him in
religion, inclining to truth, and to
establish prayer and to give
Zakah. And that is the correct
religion “ 98:5
4
5. “ Indeed We have sent down to you the book
( O Muhammad ), in truth. So worship Allah
, being sincere to Him in religion *
Unquestionably, for Him is the pure religion “
39:2 – 3
“ Say, He is Allah the One * Allah the Eternal
Refuge * He neither begets nor is born * and
nor is there to Him any equivalent “ 112
5
6. To purify the intention / aim
of doing or saying
something exclusively to
draw closer to Allah and
only for the sake of Allah
i.e. without any associates;
human or otherwise
6
7. Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger
(PBUH) said: Allah said: Among all partners, I
am the most dispensable with association. So
anyone who performs a deed in which he
ascribes to Me others; I will abandon him and
his act of polytheism.
“ And We will approach what they have done of
deeds and make them as dust dispersed “
25:23
7
8. Narrated by Ibn Lubaid: Allah's
Messenger (PBUH) said: The most
dreadful thing which I fear about
you is minor polytheism ( Sheirk ).
The companions asked: What is
the minor polytheism?
He said: It is hypocrisy.
8
9. Narrated Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Messenger
(pbuh) saying: The first of the people whose case
will be decided on the Day of Judgment will be a
man who died as a martyr. He will be brought
forth. Allah will make him know about His
blessings (which He had bestowed on him in the
World). The man will acknowledge them. Then
Allah will ask him: What did you do with them?
He will say: I fought in Your way until I died as a
martyr. Allah will remark: You are lying. You
fought so that you may be called a brave warrior.
Then orders will be passed against him. So he
will be dragged along on his face and cast into
Hell.
9
10. Second will be a man who studied (religious)
knowledge. Then he taught it to others and
recited the Qur'an. He will be brought (for
Judgment). Allah will remind him of His favours
(showered on him in the world). He will admit
them (having enjoyed them in his life). Then Allah
will ask him: What did you do with them? He will
reply: I acquired knowledge and imparted it and
also recited the Qur'an for Your sake. Allah will
observe: You have told a lie, for you got
knowledge to be renowned as a scholar; and you
recited the Qur'an to be marked as a Qari. Then
orders will be passed against him. So he will be
dragged along on his face and thrown into Hell.
10
11. Third will be a man to whom Allah had made
abundantly rich and granted him every kind of
wealth. He will be brought for judgment. Allah
will let him know about His gifts conferred upon
him in the world. He will recognize them. Then
Allah will inquire: What did you with them? He
will say: I left no way in which you like money to
be spent without spending in it for your sake.
Allah will say: You are lying. You did so to be
described as generous. So orders will be passed
against him and he will be dragged along on his
face until he will be hurled into Hell.
11
12. 1) Obvious:
- Looking for praise
- Fear of blame / criticism
- Obtain something Unlawful
- Obtain something permissible
2) Subtle:
-To make Ikhlas a means for worldly gains e.g
Wisdom sought by Imam Al-Ghazaly
- To find comfort in what makes deeds easier
e.g. Tahajud prayers
12
13. Heart Actions
The Prophet ( PBUH) says: Deeds are only by
intentions, and every man shall have only
what he intended. So one whose emigration
(hijrah) was to Allah and His Messenger –
his hijrah was for Allah and His Messenger.
But one whose hijrah was to achieve a
worldly aim or to a woman he would marry
– then his hijrah was to that for which he
emigrated “ Narrated by Bukhari & Muslim.
13
14. Ikhlas with the heart is to purify your
intention from hypocrisy and from all other
self gains like boast & pride and from all
worldly gains like money & status, and to
strive in keeping this intention before and
during the good deed.
Always renew your intention
The intention /aim for action should only be
the gain of Allah’s acceptance and love, and
this aim must not mix with any other aim(s)
14
15. Hiding your good deeds against the witness
of other people
Training oneself to perform good deeds in
secrecy
e.g. Dawood Ibn Abi Hind
e.g. Khalid Ibn Maadan
15
16. Persistency in supplication to Allah to grant
you Ikhlas in action and speech and to keep
you away from hypocrisy and showing off.
The prophet (PBUH) used to say: O Allah, I
seek refuge in You lest I associate anything
with You knowingly, and I seek Your
forgiveness for what I know not.
16
17. To ask Allah to detach the love of glory
and splendour from your heart
Ali Ibn Abi Talib used to say ( O Allah
make me better than what they
think, excuse me for what they
say, and forgive me for what they
don’t know ).
17
18. 1- A believer is rewarded his intention
“ There is not upon the weak or upon
the ill or upon those who do not find
anything to spend any guilt when they
are sincere to Allah and His
Messenger. There is not upon the
doers of good any cause for blame.
And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
18
19. * Nor is there blame upon those
who, when they came to you that you
might give them mounts, you said, I
can find nothing for you to ride upon.
They turned back while their eyes
overflowed with tears out of their grief
that they could not find something to
spend (for the cause of Allah) 9:91-92
19
20. 2- Protection against Satan
“ By your Might, I will surely mislead them all *
except among them your sincere slaves “
38:82-83
3- Acceptance of deeds
“ Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and
He is over all things competent * He who
created death and life to test you ( as to )
which of you is best in deed and He is the
Exalted in Might, The forgiving “ 67:1-2
