6 factors to consider while choosing Institutes to
‘Study in India’
Introduction
 As a parent or a student, the decision for choosing any institute or university outside of your home country is indeed an
important one. Making the right choice can be the differentiator between the right career move or the not-so-exciting
career move. It’s one of the key reasons why study in India for foreign students is rising. Internationally as well, these
factors are beginning to get more recognition. The QS rankings analyze cities based on six composite performance
indicators: affordability, desirability, student mix, rankings, employer activity and student view, ranks Mumbai and Delhi
into its slot of top 100 best cities for students, marked at 85th and 86th position respectively. Interestingly, the capability
and capacity of Indian institutes churning out global leaders goes beyond affordability.
 It is important for the students to firstly understand their primary objective of seeking admissions in India, and relevance
of the study for their future prospects. Prima facie, the causes range from seeking good placements to gaining a diverse
knowledge experience to getting a rich exposure in order to be able to go back to home country and deliver great changes
in the local environment. Whatever be purpose Edulab Education Exchange Pvt. Ltd. helps international students
enables students to choose everything – right from the top MBA colleges to the top Universities in India through
admissiondesk.org. Whether it is short term courses, internships in India, enabling them to gauge the country and its
prospects to complete applying for the top universities in India from engineering to MSW courses in India to
undergraduate courses to even hotel management courses, admissiondesk.org enables easy application process.
Admissiondesk.org plays the role of a de-facto platform connecting institutes that are open for international admissions to
students willing to ‘Study in India’. Beyond helping in processing admissions for the institutes; it also acts as a one point
contact base for all foreign students related query. It furnishes them with detailed admission process, visa application
formalities, accommodation suggestions and a general over view of life in India. Additionally, the organization tracks and
maps all available scholarships for disbursement to students and can counsel meritorious students on how to avail them.
Admission Requirements
 Even as Indian government has created scope for 15% extra seats for NRI and foreign students; students of foreign
origin or NRIs are not eligible to sit for many of the national level entrance tests which strictly govern admission
criteria for many institutes. So, it is best to know in detail about the admission criteria, cut offs and other details
before short listing institutes to apply to. Important to check – and plan a year in advance
Ranking & Affiliations
 Indian higher education system comes under UGC (University Grants Commission) that forms the administrative
structure governing education system and marks its national potency. It is important to look out for universities
and colleges which are affiliated by either of the central or state universities, or have been granted autonomy by
the UGC, and hold an A+ grading from UGC.
Curriculum & Course
 Most of the colleges in India follow curriculum set up the Central and State universities they are affiliated with; only
in case of autonomous and deemed university they can decide their own curriculum. In any case, it is important to
understand the scope of course, it’s learning benefits, and the curriculum before applying for it.
Faculty support
 A good institution is a reflection of its faculty. While choosing an institute it is important to take note of the faculty-
student ratio; total number of full time faculty and more importantly qualifications of the faculty. A majority of
Ph.D and Masters Degree holders are preferred over diploma and graduates teachers.
Infrastructure
 Infrastructure that an institute offers is not binding of its physical structure but also includes the facilities and
support provisions included like- library, computers, internet provisions, R&D support, sports, hostel facilities and
more day to day interventions.
Accommodation
 For international students coming to India for study purpose, it is imperative to look in for favorable
accommodation options. These need to be safe, clean, accessible, and within minimum distance of their
institute/college where they are seeking admissions. Many universities provide special accommodation to foreign
students/NRIs, it is best to opt for college provided stay as the first preference.
Conclusion
 India is on the right path towards internationalization of its education infrastructure- benchmarking international
learning standards; working towards research and innovation; forming international tie-ups; building global
campuses; working towards corporate inclusions; and creating holistic learning support systems. Thus, while
choosing institutes to apply to while studying in India it is imperative for international students to look beyond
affordability and focus on learning interventions that will help them towards securing their professional goals and
aspirations.
 In the last decade itself, India has churned out several global CEOs of great success and repute. This stands as a
testimony to the learning curve achieved in India through any of its streams. The inherent advantage of huge
diversity is a great enabler for young minds, the open environment that encourages debate and research combined
with a sharp focus on meritorious faculty is what has been a big benefit for students from Indian institutions. With
the cost of living and tuition fees still very affordable, perhaps it is the right time to study in India.
THANK YOU!
