Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry tells the story of Kira, who is left alone with a twisted leg after her mother dies. When some women try to take her land, Kira and Vandara go to trial. Though Kira wins, Vandara gets her land. Kira stays in the Council of Edifice and begins working on a singer's robe, needing blue thread. Her friend Matt brings blue thread and Kira's long-lost father, who explains her past and offers her a new home, which Kira decides to accept.
