2. What I want to find out…
• Its important for me to analayse my audience thoroughly and ensure that I do in depth research so
that I can create the best possible product and secondary products aimed at my target audience. I
will be looking also at the daily stereotypical lives of my target audience and how they might show
how certain audience theories are correct. The Uses and Gratifications theory will help me look at
how my audience will read my magazine and what they expect to take from it. I will look
specifically at the information they might want to take from it, the personal identity they may
want to create, to gain a missing social interaction and the entertainment value they should take
away from reading the magazine. It is important that my magazine can contribute to all of these
areas and its important for me to find out some information on my target audience to enable me
to do this. It is important for me to understand what the users want to take away so that I can base
not only my design choices but also feature choices on the audience in order to create an all round
better product with a place on the market.
4. About My Target Audience
• My magazine will be one aimed at the younger audience within the region who don't have a
regional magazine aimed at them and this means that I will focus on people aged between 17-25.
My target market are people in which have to put their personal time behind their work load
depending on sixth form, university or start of work . This also means that my magazine will have
to concentrate on the average young persons life in both genders such as going out on a regular
basis to events, clubs and parties. Due to such interests, the readers of my magazine may be more
interested in new and live events happening within the area . Due to the wide range of young
people targeted I will look at many different features to be involved in the magazine in order to
interest and attract them all. I will also look at the image I want to portray to them and whether
this is also significantly different due to the specific area or whether it is significant to the age
range. Knowing my target audiences way of living is important as a regional magazine is often
helpful in trying to make this easier for the individual, therefore it is important to include such
things in my magazine in order to create a bigger interest and also expand the information which
may be of interest to the reader.
5. About…………
• Not only will my target audience lead the stereotypical student or young lifestyle but also have
personal interests in which many have at that age. Social networking will be one in which many
people are involved in, if I involve such social networks in my magazine then I’m more likely to
create a much bigger interest in which people believe they can get involved in but also gives a way
in which I can create a much wider interest in getting my product known towards younger people
and create a relationship between the products and its readers . My target audience will not be
involved in reading a lot but use it as a way of escaping from their work and reality, they may use
the magazine to learn about local events coming to the area but also to help them keep in touch
will trends or to help them with key information. They may have a broad range of different
interests that they wish to have all in one magazine which is what I should aim in creating.
6. Age, gender and status
• Age will be key to my magazine with it being specifically aimed at people who are between 17-25
and this will include education, further education and the start of a working life which may have
huge effects in how I should market my product and how I will price it. The gender of my target
audience is not specific with wide range of different genres involved and and the young adult
lifestyle if looking at university students, sixth form students or looking at a working lifestyle
means grouping both genders as a whole. If I look at the age range then I may look at university
students and the cost of going to university and living is a lot for the age in which people often
go, students may not have the money to just go out and buy a magazine. Sixth form students may
prefer to spend their money elsewhere due to low or no income of their own or may rely on their
parents. The start of working life can be hard in terms of both time and money. So with my
magazine being involved with specific regions and being free as it includes adverts then status or
background of my audience is not too important either. Trends will have to be watched and
keeping up with all the biggest stories in order to attract the younger reader to the content that I
am involving.
