2. Scaling approaches in AR
- AR’s second phase has all been about scaling
- A combination of approaches were used including;
- Recruiting scaling partners by CG partners
- Training of Trainers for partners
- Multi-stakeholder meetings for annual planning
- Reflexive revision of development partners
- Strategic material support to tackle critical constraints
- Research backstopping to refine innovations

3. Rationale for the assessment
- The scaling work has been going on for close to five
years
- Time to rigorously assess what worked and what
doesn’t
- The last reflective assessment was two years old
- There is a need for an assessment aliened with
CGIAR current understanding of scaling

4. Objectives of the assessment
- To document scaling practices of AR
- To identify critical areas of support to amplify the scaling
effort in the remaining period
- To develop an exit strategy for scaling of AR innovations

- Methodology: quasi-ex-post scaling assessment using
ILRI’s scaling framework
