Solar thermal cooking has benefits not only for the cook but in general for women, environmentalists, health workers, engineers, economic developers, and country leaders. Billions still cook over open fires, but on sunny days a solar cooker can replace fire and provide clean, safe cooking energy with no fuel cost -- the cheapest way to cook food. Solar cookers can thereby also eliminate much of the labor of foraging for wood, chopping and preparing fires, and thus it can liberate time for women to devote to child care, education and employment. This in turn can lead to multiple economic, health and environmental benefits, such as reduced deforestation, reduced injuries, reduced habitat loss, reduced pollution, and hence help to develop countries in an innovative way. This is one of a series of slide presentations developed by Paul Arveson, a director of Solar Household Energy, Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC.

Ann Tutwiler, Director General, Bioversity International presentation on NOT finding the world's next superfood. This presentation was delivered at Kew Gardens on May 12th 2016 at the State of the World's Plants Symposium. Abstract: In the last few years, superfoods such as quinoa, amaranth and goji berries have been celebrated in the international media in recognition of their rich nutrient content. But it is not just Western consumers that can benefit from rediscovering these forgotten foods. M. Ann Tutwiler, Director General, Bioversity International, will explain how many nutritious traditional foods, which have largely fallen off menus and research-for-development agendas in favour of a handful of staple grains, are starting to make a comeback on the plates of the world’s poorest and most malnourished populations. Bioversity International carries out research on a diverse range of underutilized crops, and advocates for their wider use in healthy diets from sustainable food systems. This overview will include examples of how research-for-development efforts on quinoa in the High Andes and minor millets in India have helped bring diverse varieties back to the farm, the market and the plate. She will highlight how these crops are often not just nutrient-rich but also have a high potential to contribute to livelihoods. They are often also highly resilient to today’s production challenges, such as climate change. In conclusion, M. Ann Tutwiler will outline the urgent need to identify, promote and protect these useful plants which all have the potential to be placed into a diverse basket of Super Foods when it comes to delivering food and nutrition security.

The study was carried out to determine the innovative initiatives in packaging cocoyam flour into packs for conveniences of working women in South East Nigeria. The survey and experimental study had three research questions and two null hypotheses. The population for the study was 178 made up of 159 lecturers of Agricultural Education and 29 technologists all from South East. There was no sampling due to the small size of the population. The study was carried out in phases; the first phase made use of structured questionnaire developed from the literature reviewed for the study. The questionnaire had 29 items which were validated by three experts. Cronbach alpha method was used to determine the internal consistency of the items which yielded an overall coefficient of 0.88. Data collected by three research assistants was analyzed using mean to answer research questions one and two while ttest statistic was used to test the two null hypotheses. The items judged required in the first phase were utilized in the second phase for processing a 50kg bag of freshly harvested cormels of cocoyam (Colocasia esculenta). Two pots of soup were then prepared, one with cocoyam flour and the second with conventional cocoyam paste. These soups were presented to ten member panel (5 men and five women). Each member of the panel was given Hydonic rating scale to rate the soups. Data obtained in phase two was analyzed using mean to answer research question three. The study found out that there was no significant difference on the quantity and quality of soups prepared with cocoyam flour or taste. Based on the findings, the flour was packaged and recommended for working women to reduce their work load.

This presentation was held at AIDF's Asia Food Security Summit 2014 in Jakarta. It takes a look at edible insect farming from a food and nutrition security perspective and Veterinarians without Borders' (VWB) work on insects in Laos. Farming of edible insects has big potential to ease the double burden of poverty and malnutrition. In many countries people love insects, and farmed insects are an excellent source of valuable protein, fats, and micro-nutrients. Insect farming is easy to learn, requires minimal time and money, and provides food for families. Insect farming has also significant advantages over the collection of wild insects in terms of improved availability, accessibility, and utilization of insects. Environmentally sustainable, insects have a much better feed conversion and produce significantly less greenhouse gases than conventional livestock. Moreover, the sales of insects and insect products can provide additional income for poor people. VWB has launched 2 cricket farming projects in Central Laos, involving a total of 36 households in two provinces, working mostly with women household members. VWB's action-research approach involves the support of farmers to improve family diets, income, and also value-added foods such as cricket noodles. VWB is also studying the impact of cricket farming on child and maternal nutrition.

With more memory available, system performance of three Dell devices increased, which can translate to a better user experience Conclusion When your system has plenty of RAM to meet your needs, you can efficiently access the applications and data you need to finish projects and to-do lists without sacrificing time and focus. Our test results show that with more memory available, three Dell PCs delivered better performance and took less time to complete the Procyon Office Productivity benchmark. These advantages translate to users being able to complete workflows more quickly and multitask more easily. Whether you need the mobility of the Latitude 5440, the creative capabilities of the Precision 3470, or the high performance of the OptiPlex Tower Plus 7010, configuring your system with more RAM can help keep processes running smoothly, enabling you to do more without compromising performance.

Created by Mozilla Research in 2012 and now part of Linux Foundation Europe, the Servo project is an experimental rendering engine written in Rust. It combines memory safety and concurrency to create an independent, modular, and embeddable rendering engine that adheres to web standards. Stewardship of Servo moved from Mozilla Research to the Linux Foundation in 2020, where its mission remains unchanged. After some slow years, in 2023 there has been renewed activity on the project, with a roadmap now focused on improving the engine’s CSS 2 conformance, exploring Android support, and making Servo a practical embeddable rendering engine. In this presentation, Rakhi Sharma reviews the status of the project, our recent developments in 2023, our collaboration with Tauri to make Servo an easy-to-use embeddable rendering engine, and our plans for the future to make Servo an alternative web rendering engine for the embedded devices industry. Heather Hedden, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, presented “The Role of Taxonomy and Ontology in Semantic Layers” at a webinar hosted by Progress Semaphore on April 16, 2024. Taxonomies at their core enable effective tagging and retrieval of content, and combined with ontologies they extend to the management and understanding of related data. There are even greater benefits of taxonomies and ontologies to enhance your enterprise information architecture when applying them to a semantic layer. A survey by DBP-Institute found that enterprises using a semantic layer see their business outcomes improve by four times, while reducing their data and analytics costs. Extending taxonomies to a semantic layer can be a game-changing solution, allowing you to connect information silos, alleviate knowledge gaps, and derive new insights. Hedden, who specializes in taxonomy design and implementation, presented how the value of taxonomies shouldn’t reside in silos but be integrated with ontologies into a semantic layer. Learn about: - The essence and purpose of taxonomies and ontologies in information and knowledge management; - Advantages of semantic layers leveraging organizational taxonomies; and - Components and approaches to creating a semantic layer, including the integration of taxonomies and ontologies

Microsoft's Threat Matrix for Kubernetes helps organizations understand the attack surface a Kubernetes deployment introduces to their environments. This ensures that adequate detections and mitigations are in place. By covering over 40 different attacker techniques, defenders can learn about Kubernetes-specific mitigations and controls to deploy to their environments. In this session, we will explore the MS-TA9013 Host Path Mount technique, which is commonly used by attackers to perform privilege escalation in a Kubernetes cluster. Attendees will learn how attackers and defenders can: * Escape the container's host volume mount to gain persistence on an underlying node * Move laterally from the underlying node into the customer's cloud environment * Analyze Kubernetes audit logs to detect pods deployed with a hostPath mount * Deploy an admission controller that prevents new pods from using a hostPath mount

In Africa, potato & sweetpotato complement each other Papa potato likes it cool & Mama sweetpotato prefers warm
4.
As population density increases, farmers turn towards crops with high energy outputs per unit land per unit time
5.
Given that they are vegetatively propagated, both crops face bottlenecks in their seed systems that scientists are tackling
6.
Both are nutritious, especially in the boiled/steamed form that dominates in SSA, but both have image problems…. Potato as a junk food Sweetpotato as a food for the poor
7.
Major difference: post‐harvest use well developed in potato with an active private sector; sweetpotato still seen as a food security crop. But the world is changing..
