A Parent’s Guide to Second Grade
Drop-off/Pick-up
School Hours: 8:00-3:15 Latchkey: 3:30

•Have your child is in the classroom by 8:00
a.m., no later than 8:15 a.m.,
•Picked up by your child by 3:15 p.m., no
sooner.
• Anyone entering the classroom after 8:30
will be marked tardy (4 tardies = 1 absence).
•Please pick up your child by 3:15 p.m.
•Your child will be sent to Latchkey at 3:30
p.m. and you will be charged a $5.00 drop-in
fee.

If for some reason another person is picking up your child other than
the person on your emergency card, PLEASE CONTACT THE OFFICE.
Attendance Policy
In order for your child to succeed in second grade
  he/she must be present.

•PLEASE make sure that your child is in school daily.
When children miss a few days of school, they get
behind in the class, become confused and often
lose the motivation to excel. We want to make sure
that all students are getting the education they
  deserve.
•If your child is going to be late, please contact the office so we know to expect
them.
•School begins at 8:15 a.m. and your child will begin morning work promptly.
We don’t want to distract the other second graders from their learning, so
please make sure that your child is here and on time so they are ready for a
great learning day!
ABT Elementary Rules
Since my goal as well as that of ABT Elementary is to
create a safe, academic, positive learning
environment, it is crucial that we understand the
behavior guidelines. Please go over these with your
child as we will do in the class during the first two weeks
of school. Each student must:

         *Be responsible
         *Be respectful
         *Be safe
         *Be trustworthy
         *Do your personal best
         *Be honest

These guidelines are to help your child make good choices about their
behavior so they are successful in their learning.
Classroom Rules

Here are some guidelines that we follow at ABT
Elementary. Please go over these with your child
BEFORE school. We will go over these rules as well as
make our own for our class. They should be aware of
the rules they are going to follow:

•Raise your hand to speak or if you need to get out of
your seat.
•Keep hands and feet to yourself.
•Follow the directions the first time they are given.
•Be kind and be respectful.
•Use appropriate language.
Classroom Consequences

When your child chooses not to behave
appropriately he/she will face the following
  consequences:
  • Verbal Warning and Reminder of Class Rules
  • No recess or free time
  • Lunch Detention
  • Parent notification
  • In-School Suspension- Student is excluded from:
       Desk Unit (sits alone)
       Lunch Recess
       Class Recreation &Fun Activities
The classroom teacher determines the length of In-School Suspension. Student
needs to demonstrate a change of attitude, willingness to adhere to the class
procedures and rules, respect for staff & class, and a willingness to cooperate with
others.
These rules must be followed at all times. Defiance of these rules will not be
tolerated.

NO CHILD WILL BE ALLOWED TO STOP ANOTHER CHILD FROM LEARNING.
Classroom Rewards

With every outcome there should be motivation
for students to perform their best. Students will
receive the following if our classroom follows the
rules/guidelines:

•A happy teacher and happy students.
•Verbal praise
•Free time
•Treats
•Movie Day
•Good Behavior Party
•And much, much more!
Behavior Party

In order to maximize learning, students are encouraged to
be on their best behavior daily. We use a card system and
a behavior ladder to ensure that parents and students are
aware of the child’s daily behavior. Every month our class
has a party celebrating the student’s monthly behavior.

Our parties are usually held on the last Thursday or Friday
of every calendar month. Rewards will be given to
students according to their behavior that month.
Students who do not behave for the majority of the
month will not receive any rewards. They may also be
excluded from the activities during the behavior party.
Please send treats with your child for the behavior party.
Be sure to send treats enough for 30 students.
School Supplies:

Please send the following supplies to school. The only
items that need to be labeled with your child’s name
are the back pack, and pencil pouch. Check with your
child during the year to make sure they still have the
supplies they need. We will put their extra supplies in
a file marked with their name so that they may stock
up as needed.

               •Crayons (No more than 24)
               •3 dozen pencils, sharpened
               •5 glue sticks
               •Scissors (labeled with name)
               •3 large erasers
               •1 box of markers
               •2 large boxes of tissue
               •Backpack (labeled with name)
•1 or 2 pencil pouches (labeled with name, no boxes please)
               •3 spiral notebooks
Communication

Education is a partnership between home and school. I value
parent involvement at every level and encourage you to
partner with me. In order for this partnership to be
effective, we need to be able to communicate.

Please feel free to call, write a note, or e-mail me if you have
concerns or questions about your child’s education. I am
always available to schedule a conference to discuss any
issue or concern you have regarding your child.

I speak Arabic and English. Our school also has Spanish
speaking staff members in case you may need a translator.
