Where should interviews take place?
An appropriate
  interview site is
  – Comfortable
  – Well lit
  – Private with no
    interruptions
Put Yourself in the Interviewees’ Shoes
              • An Interview is also the time for the
                candidate to interview you, so try
                and anticipate what questions they
                will ask YOU about the company
                and job
              • Make sure you can clearly articulate
                what the candidate’s role would be
                if hired
              • So, give yourself a “refresher” on
                basic company info (mission statement,
                benefits, etc.)

   Review         Gather

Review Application Material
• Carefully review the
  position description and
  qualification
  requirements

• Do not use the interview
  itself to review an
  application or resume
   – This shows lack of
     preparation and respects
     towards the candidate
   – It also wastes valuable
     time
Prepare Questions & Interview Outline
              • This ensures that the information
                desired from the candidate is
                received

              • When multiple candidates are
                being interviewed, common
                questions will make comparisons
                easier
              • However, each candidate will
                require unique questions as well

              • Provide interviewee with a
                purpose and agenda at beginning
Gather Appropriate Materials

• Gather materials needed for the interview
  before the interviewee arrives
• Searching for the application
  material, interview outline, or writing
  materials for notes, indicates lack of
  preparation
Begin on Time
We expect the candidate to
be on time, so you as an
interviewer need to strive to
begin the interview on time


Avoid scheduling a meeting
or another activity that may
run long immediately before
an interview

If multiple interviews are
being conducted during a
single day or period, make
sure some time is scheduled
between them
