How do you know which one to get and how to get started?
This guide will show you the different website platforms and what you need to make sure you have an online presence
that will get you to your success dreams.
Do you have a small local biz like:
photographers
hair dresser
make up artist
clothing, children, wedding, etc.
jewelry
musicians
counselors
coaching, health, life, etc.
chiropractors
dentists
lawyers, etc.
Stores – ecommerce?
the list goes on…
1. Are you looking for a “Cookie cutter” site?
One that is easy to use – plug in pictures, no coding, no additional college course in order to figure it out?
Let’s take a look at a few of the cookie cutter websites that show you ways to create a website that supposed to be
easy to use.
Platforms to create websites:
web.com
wix.com
weebly.com
format.com
Bigcommerce.com
shopify.com

All of these platforms need hosting, (which they can provide) monthly fees, same features and disadvantages as
the main wordpress.org solutions.

2. 2. What is hosting?
You must have hosting for any website you create. It is the service providing space on the Internet for the websites.
There are different types of web hosting depending on your needs.
Shared web hosting is only recommended if you do not plan to bring a lot of traffic to it. Less than 1000 visitors a day
as it is shared with other sites. It is the cheapest and yet can be slow if the other sites it is shared on getting more
traffic.
Website builder provides the templates. This is typical for the free sites.
Cloud hosting is another type.
This is between shared and dedicated hosting. Your website is still shared on other servers, yet you are not sharing
the resources you purchased. They should handle extra traffic your website brings.
The last type of hosting is the dedicated hosting.
This is the most secure hosting as you use your own server and all the resources. You have full control and is the
most expensive type of hosting.
3. Let’s look at advantages and disadvantages of the different types of website
platforms.
WordPress.org
To use this platform, you must host it with companies like hostgator, bluehost, etc.
Advantages – tons of flexiblity, custom theme, seo rank easy capabilities
Disadvantages – very confusing for new user that has never created a website before, always updating plug-ins and
daily as necessary, takes a lot of upkeep.
Not mobile ready, you have to optimize for each mobile platform, or scrolling will be necessary to enlarge font, etc.
Flash sites
Options to have them hosted or the company host it.
Examples of flash sites are: wix, weebly, format, and sure there are many others.
Advantages – looks fancy, yet none of big companies use it, more free lance work uses the creative platform, can do
special 3D like features
Disadvantages – Not SEO (Search Engine Optimization) ready, as you can not optimize ways for visitors to find you.
This can be a confusing platform for the new user.
Free platforms: Blogger, WordPress.com, Tumblr, etc.
Advantages – Its’ free, more of a social platform, easy to do an update, share a video, etc.
Disadvantages – Any of these platforms can take your site away with out notice, and is not for professionals. It is not
real easy to customize and can not come off as a professional site.

5. Notice how if they find you in the search engines, they will more than likely be on their mobile device. Which is where
most people are finding you!
Also notice that on the mobile sites of how the content, images and videos are laid out for best optimized and easy to
use for your audience.
Disadvantages – Limitations can not do java script, so no custom opt in forms, yet there is a plug in to use at the
bottom of each posts.
Must host shopping carts, opt ins on separate site. Another limitation is the 5 themes and no customization. While you
can customize each theme easily, there are no other formats you can use. So some say this is an advantage and a
disadvantage depending on your needs.
4. Do I need a domain?
This is the big question to those that really want to be able to rank in the search engines. When you question your
domain, some of the serious ones look for an aged domain that has already been “used” with strong authority back
links that makes it easier to rank. This can work for search engine structure when you use a wordpress site. Yet not
necessary when you use the Kalatu platform because they are already use authority domains to create a strong

SEO is search engine optimization. You want to have your website positioned in the search engines when people
want to find you. The different type of platforms varies on the support for having your website optimized.
The flash sites really allow little or no way for the search engines to read your keyword, tags, etc. to be able to pick up
for optimization.
The wordpress sites are the best as it reads all of the title, tags, etc. to read for best optimization.
The fastest results will be from the Kalatu platform as everyone is using the same domain authority site and boost the

6. Why do I need a mobile ready site?
Most target audiences are doing fast research, comparing and purchasing from mobile sites as there are starting to

With the wordpress type platforms, you have to have certain plug ins in order to view the theme in the correct
platforms.

Be careful as you upload pictures. Through my experience, the flash sites do not allow options to download files or
pictures after you upload them.
The wordpress sites do allow you to download the content and media. So if you plan on changing platforms, be sure
to get a wordpress one you can back up and keep in case something happens and change your mind.

There may be a way to email the platform creators for technical questions.
