• In 1984, Obama was hired by the New York Public
Interest Research Group.
• He also was paid just under $10,000 annually as a
full-time organizer for Harlem's City College to
mobilize student volunteers.
• From 1985-88, Obama worked as a community
organizer on the South Side of Chicago.
• He helped Loretta Herron gain city approval for a
local community job center.

He went on to earn his law degree from
