3. AYP Mathematics Target:
 By June 2011, the number of 3rd, 4th, and 5th
grade Special Education students at or above
the proficient level on the Math MSA will
increase from 59.2 % to 75%

5.  The data suggests that the MSA math scores
are trending in a positive direction.
Over the past 2 years…
 Students scoring advanced increased from 30.5
to 42.3%
 Students scoring basic decreased from 17.7 to
13.0%

7.  Veterans MSA scores greatly exceed the MSDE
AYP standards as well at the Howard County
Standard
 Veterans Elementary school showed continued
growth from last year from 82.3% to 87%
scoring proficient and advanced

9.  Compared to other Howard County schools
Veterans Elementary has fewer students
scoring basic and more scoring proficient and
advanced
 Compared to other Maryland schools Veterans
Elementary has fewer students scoring basic
and more students scoring proficient and
advanced

11.  When looking at MSA math scores by grade
level…
 4th grade has the fewest students who scored
basic and the most scoring proficient and
advanced
 5th grade has the most students scoring basic
and the fewest scoring proficient and advanced

13.  Veterans Elementary stacks up when looking at
the overall MSA math scores and comparing
them to other Howard County Schools and
Maryland State school
 BUT THERE IS STILL WORK TO
BE DONE…
 When we drill down the data, we can see that
the subgroups of African American (23.9%),
FARM (21.1%), and especially Special
Education (40.7%) scored basic

15.  Increase in the number of Special Education
Teachers
 Quality Professional Development for Teachers
 After School Math Tutoring for Students
 Double Math Classes for grades 3, 4, and 5
