9. Example Challenges
• How do we help faculty, student affairs, and other departments
understand the large amount of online students throughout our
school? It's much easier for them to just not address them despite
their growing numbers.
• Multiple non-academic departments on campus asking for assistance
from our department in the area of technology. How to prioritize,
without disappointing anyone?
• Other than repeated reminders to remember our online community
in all things, how do we change the culture?

• Many faculty are not open to a master course model, but our dept
(and SUNY) believe it is the direction to go.
• How do we address the uniqueness of graduate online students? Not
a much discussed topic here.
• Our department has been charged to review all online courses on
campus, but the number of unique courses continue to group and
folks make changes after their review is complete.

11. Example Solutions
• Campus - wide group, conversations, one-on-one meetings where
outcomes and how some of the new things are actually not too
difficult to implement.
• Put the initial creation process in the hands of faculty, since they are
the ones who generally have the most issues and concerns once
they're in agreement. It's easier for the rest to reach consistency.
• Focus on the people who are moving the needle forward and use
them to draw others along. Work with the coalition of the willing

• Training through webinars/online technology in brief modules. Baby
steps. Hopefully SUNY will provide more access to software.
• Talk to Chuck/Larry/Harry/Mike/Nazely/Meg/Mike AKA use your
colleagues
• Bring in faculty who do this well to do a show and tell
