During the Airbus Military Trade Media Briefing 2013, held on May 29th and 30th 2013, the trade press had an opportunity to fly on the A400M. After watching the plane emerge over the past few years, it was exciting to have the opportunity to fly the plane. Noticeably quiet inside the plane, journalists noted the rapid ascent off a short take off and the smooth ride for a large cargo plane. The plane is designed to combine the ability to operate C-130 “like” with the kind of oversized loads, which the C-17 can carry. At the event, the head of the A400M program, Cedric Gautier, briefed the press on the progress of the plane and the upcoming deliveries to the French and Turkish Air Forces in 2013. Two A400Ms will be seen at the upcoming Paris Air Show, with the French Air Force one seen on the static display.

In a presentation to a Williams Foundation seminar on August 10, 2016, Rear Admiral (Retired) James Rapp looked at the evolving and expanding role of LVC training. The Williams Foundation has held a seminar on new approaches to air-sea integration on August 10, 2016 in Canberra, Australia. The Royal Australian Navy has had the ability to network and share situational awareness amongst the fleet for many years and the P-3s has been the only RAAF platform capable of being part of that network. The RAAF’s journey of networking its capability journey started more recently with the Hornet Upgrade Program and has accelerated with the introduction of capabilities like Wedgetail and Vigilaire. All of the RAAF’s fleet is now capable of linking into and contributing to an Air Layer of the Joint Battle management system. With the advent of 5th Generation capabilities like the JSF and the new combat systems on the AWD as well as the design and development of the new combat systems for the Australia’s future frigates, Offshore Patrol vessels and Submarines, the ADF has a unique opportunity to influence and design in an unprecedented level of integration into the RAN’s and RAAF’s new platforms. That unprecedented level of integration should drive new thinking on the integration of air and sea power effects. The seminar is about examining the challenges and possibilities of the combat power in that future integrated force. Air Force and Navy need to not only remediate existing deficiencies but take advantage of the transformative nature of fifth generation technology. At Karakuri we build robots for the food industry. I would love to share a peek into our decentralised architecture and how the different robot components interact and communicate with each other. As the physical world is quite I/O heavy and we have build our robot in a modular way. A microservice based architecture was the right call. Key takeaways: - RabbitMQ as message broker - TypeScript/Node.js for our microservices - Hardware components with REST APIs Orfeo is a computer scientist with almost 20 years of industry experience. He has a double Masters degree in Innovation Design Engineering and is the course leader of the robotics course at the Imperial College Global Summer School. He works as Head of Software at Karakuri, a robotics startup. They just secured a seed funding round led by Ocado.
