www.lanteria.com How to choose an HR Management System (HRMS) I am glad that you are reading this. It means that you would like to make your HR management process more effective. You are probably still working in excel, or using some software that does not seem to respond to all your needs. I am happy to share my experience and will be glad if my suggestions someday help you choose the right HR Software. The key points are: 1) Have your goals. Think which areas of HR you are looking to improve: document management, recruiting, compensation, learning...maybe something else? This will help you find the solution that will exactly match your needs and you will not have any unused features. 2) Make it useful for all people involved. Remember: your HR manager is not the only person who will be involved in using the system. Make sure your solution has self-services for employees, managers and other roles, if needed. Also, make sure the solution will be easy to support and your IT team will not be suffering with it. Do not forget to ask the opinion of your IT guys. 3) Cloud based or on server? Vendors used to offer solutions to be installed on your server. It usually meant that you could use the license forever and probably pay for some updates. Nowadays most of the HR Software vendors offer cloud based systems. As a usual practice, you only pay a monthly subscription. Think what is best for you: cloud is cheaper at a first glance, but appears to be more expensive after years. 4) Customization... You never know what you may need in the future. Your company policies may change and your software needs to have some flexibility. It does not mean that one day you may use your HRMS for making coffee...but I know many examples when companies had to search for new HR Software because what they had was not flexible to accept many changes...and if your business is growing, you are likely to have changes in the future. There are many other factors that influence the decision. You may find out more while communicating with many vendors. But if you have a solution that matches all 4 points above - you can be sure that you have made a right choice and now it is the right time to think about your budget.
