The document discusses an individual's goals and principles for achieving them, including guiding principles, intermediate goals, and long-range goals. It also outlines tools for cutting through "fog" like intuition and a unifying philosophy of persevering toward goals despite obstacles. The philosophy is inspired by a quote about viewing challenges as just "a blade of grass" and keeping focused. All US Presidents were goal-driven, overcoming personal crises to achieve visions.

7. INTUITION – MY GUARD AGAINST THE FOG:
- Acquire the ability to gain knowledge of the “FOG” in advance of
it blinding me.
- Look for precursors to the “FOG” such as the effects of sudden
unplanned events in my life such as unexpected health problems,
family issues and relative/family visitation.
- Aptly predict its impact, and redirect/mitigate such problems by
politely addressing/communicating the issue/problem involved in
order to maintain focus on goals.

8. MY UNIFYING PHILOSOPHY – Leadership quote from a key leader at the Army’s
Infantry School in December of 1992:
- “Things will be tough - life in the infantry isn't easy, there will be wars, some of
you will remain married - some of you won't, but remember in life's struggles,
"IT's JUST A BLADE OF GRASS...DRIVE ON!”
- Essentially – what the Colonel was saying is that life is full of obstacles
and hard-ship and that it’s not over till it’s over, this was a short lesson in
staying focused and one that will serve me well in the pursuit of a
doctorate…I have never seen Colonel who made these remarks since that final
day at the infantry school; however, I have consistently referred to it(quote) as a
source of motivation over the course of my life - it keeps me on track!

9. CLOSING THOUGHTS – OUR PRESIDENTS:
- One thing all of our U.S. Presidents have in common is
that they were goal driven and many of them overcame
personal crisis. President Lincoln overcame the
personal failure of “bankruptcy,” President Washington
had the challenge of a new nation and set the course for
the next 100 years, while President Kennedy was a
visionary who saved the world from nuclear conflict and
destruction – ALL had one thing in common, they were
GOAL DRIVEN!
