The French traders developed alliances because of this. The mariners would by fur from Indians and offered manufactured goods to them such as beads, kettles, and knives. In 1610, The alliance brought on by the French caused the Iroquois to obtain metal weapons from the Dutch. They attacked the small French colony on the St. Lawrence. The French made dangerous enemies because of the fur trade. The fur trade pitted the Indians against one another in destructive competition.

They decided to go to Canada. - in 1609, Champlain and nine French soldiers joined a large allied war party the attack the Iroquois. - This grew the fur trade more competitive because officials fibbed the sale of guns to Indians.
