3. Aim
= To show the understanding of the oil heating
system and how important this system is for
ships
Objective
= People or students with zero knowledge about
this system will gain some basic knowledge or
idea of how oil is been heated and why
4. Showing the filtering of sea water with the use of
drinking water filter.
The filtered water is then connected to the heater
through piping.
After the water is been heated, it will be pumped into
the coils in the oil tank to heat the crude oil.
Then the heated water will be cooled down by the
cool oil in the tank and returned to the water
reservoir.
The crude oil in the oil tank will be at the right
viscosity as the right temperature had been applied
to it.

(see through) Heater Filtered Unfiltered
Water Tank Water Tank
Steel piping
Thermometers
Copper piping Wood support
7. This tank will contain only crude oil
without any processes applied to it
A thermometer will be attached to it to
show the temperature of the oil
The purpose of it is only to show
audience what does crude oil looks like
before being heated (not ready to be
use by ships)
8. The thermometer located before and
after the water heater are used to make
sure the temperature of the water is
suitable to be transferred around
The use of the controllable water heater
will prevent the piping from bursting due
to too high temperature.
The piping for this model will sure be
protected with pipe insulation to prevent
anyone to be physically contacting with
hot piping.
9. - This model can be build within 1½ month
- It could takes about 1½ month too to
check and repair any deficiency
- Constructing this model with the used of
recycled or provided material will takes
about $100-$200 only
10. With the present of this project, it will
helps students to understand better of
how oil is being heated before been
used in the ship
It will also makes it easier for students to
imagine the whole concept of this
system and easily applied it to the real
construction in ships
11. All the six criteria are included in this construction:
- The idea is related to marine engineering
concept since it is about the heating of oil in ships
- It will surely be practicable since all the materials,
timing, budget and design for the construction
are manageable
- In the matter of affordable and economical, this
model only needed less than $200 which is worth
to be spend for the sake of long term knowledge
- Never the less, this model for sure helps to avoid
the destruction of earth since they are using
recycled materials and reuses water.
