• Inkjet printers are most commonly
used printers and range from small
inexpensive consumer models to
expensive professional machines.
• Ink jet printers are an example of non
impact printers.
• The printer sprays tiny droplets of ink
onto the paper.
• Inkjet printers are available for color
and black-and-white printing.

4. Working principle
• There are two main technologies used in contemporary inkjet
printers:
1. Continuous inkjets(CIJ)
And 2. Drop-on-demand(DOD)

is divided into
• thermal
• and piezoelectric DOD

7. Working of inkjet printer
• An ink filled print cartridge attaches to the inkjets
• The printhead is made of small ink filled chambers, attached to a
nozzle
• Resistor heats a thin layer of ink at the bottom of the chamber to
more than 900 Fahrenheit or Piezo element is provided with a
voltage that pushes on the ink and forces a bubble of ink outwards
from the nozzle.
• As this bubble expands it pushes the ink
• The ink droplet overcomes the surface tension of the ink

9. Advantages of inkjet printers
• They are quieter in operation than impact dot matrix or daisy wheel printers.
• They can print finer smoother details through higher resolution.
• Inkjet printers are fairly inexpensive. They cost less than a typical black-and-
white laser printer, and much less than a color laser printer.
• Capable of printing in vivid colors, good for printing pictures.
• Easy to use
• Reasonably fast
• Lesser hazards compared to laser printers

10. Disadvantages of inkjet printers
• Print head is less durable
• Expensive replacement ink cartridges
• Not good for high volume printing
• Printing speeds not as fast as laser printers
• Aqueous ink is sensitive to water
• Higher printing cost
• If not used for long time printing head can get jammed or ink can
get dried up
