3. Originated and thrived in the London money market
In the Indian scenario, the Grindlays Bank established the
first merchant banking division in the in the year 1967,
City Bank in 1970,
And the State Bank of India in 1972,
Other institutions and banks such as the ICICI, Syndicate
Bank, Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, The Chartered Bank,
the Mercantile Bank etc also joined
Many of the prominent stock brokers of the country have
also started undertaking the merchant banking companies
