Reflection Paper On Critical Thinking
My original thoughts on Critical Thinking were that it requires learned skill and self–reflection. I felt
that it is impossible to think critically while ignoring the flaws in your thought processes. Logic is
imperative to investigate the motive behind any critical response. I theorized being vested in the
outcome can often prejudice an opinion which skews the result. Most often, putting our own
experiences in what we learn is acceptable, even encouraged, after we have applied a critical eye to
the issue. As students, we will need to remember to think logically, to research and make an in depth
study of each article, fact, theory, or question.
The article I chose changed my mind up to a point. The author posits that engaging in learning
encourages a more robust experience and a better outcome. In her class, she holds a seminar called
"The Last Class" in which she involves the students in not only critiquing the course but also eliciting
suggestions to improve it for future students. (Bleicher, 2011).
I enjoyed reading the different tactics she employed to elicit student involvement, and while they are
simple, they appeared effective. The entire experience is about participation and improvement. The
students respond to a list of topics: Readings, Units, Writing, Activities, Suggestions, Favorites,
Advice, Big Questions, Films, Media, Future. The course specific items would not apply to every
situation, but in general, it's an inclusive list. Some of the tactics she used that struck me the most:
1. She gave the markers to the shyest student, instructing the others to get their markers from that
student, who was then actively involved.2. Using music that did not appeal to the students to get
them to supply a list of "better" choices.3.Particularly, the idea of putting up pages with a simple
word (or two) to which the students could respond, taking notes or ideas from others.(Bleicher, 2011)
By the time I was done reading the article I had completely changed my mind about interactive
learning. I now feel that it is a complementary way to learn and become involved, which will help
reinforce learning by awakening a hunger for knowledge.

barriers that stop the gathering of information and analyzing that are key to being a critical thinker. A
few of the resistances that foster narrow–mindedness are denial, the refusal to believe something

I have already gone through the hurdle in my life where beliefs I have had in my whole life have
been a fabrication. I learned to overcome the anger a long time ago. Even with the uncertainly of
some beliefs that may be true, false, or in the middle, or looking at your opposing side and calmly
analyzing their viewpoint; it isn't that difficult for me to do anymore. The hardest thing someone
will find is looking at the opposing side of their argument. The human brain likes to simplify
processes and this is a very easy example of what the brain does. Since they are against your
viewpoint, your brain would assign them as an enemy. Things are not as black and white as that
and viewing perspectives who oppose you can either teach you something new or reinforce your
standing. Hopefully not in the way where you just belittle them as x category, but see why they
think and act the way they do. Much of what critical thinking does is really subjective on what

My hand was moving fast across the page checking things about myself that I didn't even need to
think about. Personally I stop checking boxes and my left hand started to absentmindedly fingle with
the freshly sharpened pencil in my hand. A question that came naturally to most people What is a

I remember a time when I was at my aunts house on my fathers side and I overheard her saying "
her parents has to do something to her hair" when I left the room. And my mothers side of the family
was no better since they always suggested that i straighten my hair––even though i wasn't even in
middle school yet. but as I grew older and slowly Felt less hostile towards my mixed background, i
started to appreciate the many places j came from. I realize that this was a bow do that stemmed
from uncertainty good myself. That nobody was telling me I wasn't good enough or worthy––but i

In Orlando, the party scene happens on Saturday nights. Girls and guys get dressed up to hit the
clubs in the downtown area. Everything seemed normal late that Saturday night and into the early
hours of Sunday morning at Pulse, a gay Nightclub. At approximately 2:02 a.m., people in the
club heard gun fire. That was the beginning of the deadliest mass shooting in US history. The
attack lasted for three hours. People were trapped in the club with the shooter, Omar Mateen, until
the police took him down. Many were wounded and several were killed. The massacre was
terrifying for myself, my family, and my community. The attack happened only fifteen minutes
away from my childhood home, and the house my father still lives in currently. This attack and the
lives that were lost is something I personally will never forget. I do not understand how something
of this nature could happen in our country. I wonder how a man this psychotic could possess
firearms that cause as much destruction as he did. After reading more about the shooter, Omar, I
discovered that he may have been gay or bisexual, but his father was so strict on him that he felt he
