Creative
Understandthe purpose or goal of the design.
What should the design accomplish?
4. STEP 2:
Do the research
MY DESIGN PROCESS Alvalyn Lundgren | Alvalyn
Creative
Observehow students use their lockers. Interview students at several
schools about how they use their lockers. What’s working? What isn’t?
What would they change, and why?
Interview school staff. What is the impetus for the re-design? How do they
understand the current situation and what do they want to change? Why?
5. STEP 3:
SUMMARIZE
MY DESIGN PROCESS Alvalyn Lundgren | Alvalyn

Summarize the issues and possible solutionsthataddress them.
6. STEP 4:
IDEATE
MY DESIGN PROCESS Alvalyn Lundgren | Alvalyn
Creative
Develop concepts for possiblesoltuions that address
the stated concerns. Develop concept drawings.
7. STEP 5:
DEVELOP PROTOTYPES
MY DESIGN PROCESS Alvalyn Lundgren | Alvalyn
Creative
Develop mock-ups based on concept drawings.
Test and modify. Make adjustments and corrections.
8. STEP 6:
IMPLEMENT
MY DESIGN PROCESS Alvalyn Lundgren | Alvalyn
Creative
Finalize budget, materials, schedules, contractors.
Build the design.

Evaluate
MY DESIGN PROCESS Alvalyn Lundgren | Alvalyn
Creative
Is the design successful? Does it solve the problem?
How is it being used? How do people interact with the design?
Are they better off with the new design?
