2. The bold and bright lighting as the
camera glides across the scene, including
the random colours used in their
costumes, so they contrast to the pitch
white background. This therefore
creates a positive from first glance which
links to the upbeat pop rhythm of ‘sorry’.
Also what's popular within pop songs is
that artist are usually dancing along with
the beat. Artists main aim within pop
music is to sell their song to the
audiences, which is typically done by
creating a happy mood because who
doesn’t like to feel happy and upbeat;
inspiration is also taken for audiences
members through the confidence of the
dancers.
3. The use of glasses are use throughout the
video to keep their own identity from being
taken, therefore the dancers are able to build
their personality and show expression through
dancing so dramatically and the outstanding
costume choices. This is very common to be
extravagant in pop songs, and practically within
this video which is highlighted specifically n
making in the main focus. In addition this
images use of editing focuses on the 3 girls at
in the background whilst the two at the front
are slighting blurred, this switches throughout
this shot to capture each of their moves.
Although the camera constantly moves to
express the aspect of movement at all times
and therefore moving along with the beat.
4. The rule of thirds is used nicely here to
extenuate the girl dancing and to create
an interesting piece of footage. In
addition makeup is used throughout the
video especially red lipstick which many
of the girls seem to be wearing in every
shot. Preferably used as a colour blocker
in contrast with their outfits. This is
therefore very common within pop
music, to wear lots of makeup and to
stand out at all times.
5. Branding is a common theme of pop
music especially commonly known
brands like; Nike, timberland and of
course Adidas, which is clearly the main
feature in this image. This is usually used
in pop videos as they are commonly the
most popular and companies are
therefore able to exploit their brands to
audiences. Also the popularity of the
artist (Justin Bieber) whose main target
audience is teenage girls similar to the
age of the dancers within the video,
therefore they will be looked up as role
models. All these elements are taking
into consideration within pop videos as
they need ever which way to reach
audiences. It also suggests that their in
touch with the public as they are
wearing inexpensive brands which are
affordable to desirable for all audiences.
6. Mise en scene is used nicely here creating
a pyramid formation of them all in sync,
with open body language reaching up
expressing emotion. Therefore portraying
an emotions and feelings and creating a
message for the audience, possibly to
express yourself. Its common in pop
songs to tell a narrative or give a message
which is therefore expressed and told in
music videos to intrigue audiences as if
they have to figure it out, most narratives
are commonly about love/breakups. In
this music video is common and
highlighted which works alongside the
lyrics and beat of the song expression
forgiveness ‘sorry’ and movement.
Furthermore within pop everything is
usually perfect from the lyrics to the
video itself and as you can see within this
image everything is in a perfect
synchronised movement.
7. A sexual female attraction is always
highlighted throughout pop music and has
been throughout the song, this is usually
portrayed by females and them dancing
and/or moving in a particular way.
Although within this video it appears not
to be the main attraction as things are
kept fairly playful and PG, to create a
larger audiences although still make it
appear mildly sexy. Therefore the use of
bright colours have kept it appropriate so
that its purely based on expression. This
could be seen as a slight countertype for
the stereotype of pop songs, as a lot don’t
give to much away. Although works very
well in what its trying to put across.
Different artists choose to portray their
videos in different ways although typical
videos include dancing and partying.
8. Facial expressions are used here which is
a symbolic technique, as it is used to
make sense of the story line, as is used
with the chorus ‘is it too late to say
sorry’. Some of their identities are
exposed here as your able to see their
eyes as they dip their heads, which links
to the meaning as aspect of saying sorry
and actually meaning it sympathetically
and in this case sympathy is shown
through the use of facial expressions and
increased identity. Also it is clear here
that the music being played is diegetic;
meaning they’re able to hear it while
dancing as the dancers are reacting to it
and moving along to the beat with it in a
certain manner.
