UNITED WAY OF GENESEE COUNTY MISSION: Unite People Develop Resources Create Solutions www.unitedwaygenesee.org
OUR VISION: “We will build a stronger Flint and Genesee County by mobilizing our community to improve people’s lives”. www.unitedwaygenesee.org
WHAT WE DO . . . The United Way of Genesee County mobilizes the community and its resources, forges partnerships and collaborations with individuals, non-profit agencies, government, corporations, organized labor and foundations, to help create solutions. We have broadened our role in the community, beyond being just a fundraiser and grantor. Today, many community leaders and residents view our United Way as a Community Builder and a Collaborator. www.unitedwaygenesee.org
www.unitedwaygenesee.org SYSTEMIC CHANGE United Way is working to advance the common good in our community by changing the way we invest dollars and the way we evaluate outcomes. In 2005, we established our Systems of Care around our four focus areas to help us create systemic change, a greater impact and a better use of our donors’ dollars. The Systems of Care are comprised of representatives from United Way funded partners, non funded partners, government, faith community and public agencies.
www.unitedwaygenesee.org UNITED WAY PROGRAMS United Way provides the following programs: Bone Marrow Program – Since this partnership began, over 17,000 donors from our community have been added to the National Marrow Donor Program registry and approximately 44 volunteers have donated their bone marrow to patients in need of a transplant. United Way/UAW/General Motors Ramp Program – Provides assistance to disabled citizens through the construction of residential ramps. Since its inception, they have built over 4,700 ramps. Bridges to the Future – Has 15 sites in 4 school districts in Genesee County that focus on enhanced student learning and youth development. National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive – This event collects millions of pounds of food across the country to feed the homeless and hungry families. Last year, Genesee County brought in 142,868 pounds of food for those in need. This program is sponsored by the NALC, United Way and the AFL-CIO.
