The Upsala glacier is the third largest Southern Patagonian (Patagonia comprises the southern most region of South America) Ice Field and covers an area of 800 square kilometers. It is one of the largest glaciers located in the Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina. This glacier terminates in the northern part of Lake Argentino. Its retreat has not been directly linked to global warming. The photographs show the retreat of the glacier from January 2001 to January 2004.
The San Quintín Glacier is the largest outflow glacier of the Northern Patagonian Ice Field located in southern region of Chile. As seen in the photographs, this glacier appears to be retreating and losing mass in recent years.
The Larsen ice shelf is situated in the north-west part of the Weddell Sea. It consist of three ice-shelves, Larsen A which is the smallest, Larsen B and Larsen C, the largest. Larsen A disintegrated in January 1995 and Larsen B in January 2002. About 3,250 square km of the Larsen B ice shelf area disintegrated in a 35 day period beginning January 31, 2002 (National Snow and Ice data center). Gangotri glacier is situated in the Uttar Kashi district of the Uttarakhand state of India. It is the largest one in the Himalaya and is 30.2 km long and 0.5-2.5 km wide.
