- The target audience for the artist's song is 15-30 year olds, primarily females as the song is from a female perspective. Younger members of the audience may relate through their parents in older age groups.
- The artist gathered feedback on their music video from social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, as well as through online surveys. This helped identify ways to improve the video.
- Suggestions from the feedback included adding more passion to the singing, using more and wider location shots, and including a clearer narrative and more action shots. However, many of these changes would require refilming parts of the video.
1. What have you learnt from your audience feedback? (697 words)
My audience is very open and the artist may appeal to a large variety of people. If I had to describe
a “typical” consumer then I would have to say that it would be someone aged 15-30 and also I think
that the concept of the song fits more to a female audience as it is from a females point of view. As
a big part of the target audience is young adults, the majority of them won't have experienced the
working life and will not be associated with a social class as they will still be in full-time education.
However for the older members of my target audience, they would most likely fit into the social
classes B-C2 with skilled, managerial positions. I think the younger members of the audience would
seek an insight into the lyrics by looking up to their parents or those at the older end of the target
audience. I can imagine that the music video and song would appeal to the majority girls as well as
boys too, this is because of the attractiveness factor and boys would be interested in the artist’s
looks. As the song is of the pop genre, deriving from 'popular', the artist is going to have
mainstream success and likability. Therefore the psychographics of my audience would be 'main
stream' and I think that they would be looking out for the type of music that is topping the charts
but also keeping up with trends.
Taking all of the above into consideration I needed to get feedback from my target audience at
various stages of the production process so that I was certain what I was creating would appeal to
them and they could give me any improvement points and suggestions. In my opinion, feedback on
your products is the most crucial stage as without any feedback, you have no idea whether your
product is fulfilling its purpose.
I managed to gather audience feedback in various ways, such as, via social networking sites,
www.surveymonkey.com, group discussions and individual interviews. Social networking sites are a
great way to collect feedback responses easily. I posted my video on twitter and got various
messages after giving me their thoughts and opinions. I also uploaded the video onto Facebook and
again received comments on people favourite parts. However, I find it difficult to get constructive
criticism when you just ask for people’s opinion as people find it hard picking out the bad and
telling you. That is why Survey Monkey is such a good website; you can create a survey for free and
then post the link onto Facebook, Twitter and email it around. This allowed me to add some
challenging questions such as “What improvements would you make”, you can also make required
fields so that you cannot skip certain questions. This feedback was from peers, family and then a
small amount of people I do not know. All of them fitted into the target audience so all the data
and feedback received is valid.
I managed to use the feedback effectively as when I was producing the video, I could ask people for
their views and then change things accordingly. Some feedback, however, turned out to be
ineffective as there were no clear improvements to make so all I was left with is the good parts of
the video.
After my final video, I received feedback on Survey Monkey and various improvement comments
were; to make the performer put more passion into her singing; add more locations and open up
the locations by using long shots; add a clearer narrative and to have more action shots.
2. These comments were difficult to act upon seeing as I had already filmed and finished my video
and the majority of the comments would require me to re-film certain scenes and re-plan many
scenes of my video. However, I have looked through the comments and tried to add more dancing
footage into it so that the audience can see more action shots. Also, I added in a long shot of her
dancing so that the video and location is opened up slightly.
