Discrimination Speech
DISCRIMINATION SPEECH
Discrimination, it is as old as human kind. Some people would say that discrimination is a type of
abuse, falling into both the physiological and physical molds. The Homosapians committed this
abuse against the Neanderthals, and I think we can all agree that it is one of the sources of most
societal ills. Prejudice, bullying, racism are all types of discrimination. Machismo, Homophobia &
stereotypes are also products of this abuse. Maybe there is a physiological explanation to all of this,
maybe you were raised to discriminate against Jews or Asians, or maybe you had a bad experience
with a black man and so you associate black people with that experience.
Let's start of with Machismo. It has been around even...show more content...
Depression, Social Anxiety, Anorexia, Bullmenia, Suicidal Tendencies,
PTSD(Post–Traumatic–Stress–Disorder), and MANY others. All of these mental sicknesses can be
caused by years of discrimination. Most of these when in severe levels or if they have been
happening for a long time can and will put the persons LIFE in danger! My father, Robert Peters
volunteered for 6 months at a Suicide Prevention Hotline, and said that of all of the calls he
received in that time, roughly 85% of the calls were from gay people who, had been thrown out of
the lives of their parents, families, friends and out of their homes, for no other reason except the fact
that they were born gay and were trying to be themselves.
If you are as shocked as I am by the amount of discrimination different people in our planet suffer, I
will just tell you one thing, I am sure that every person in this hall has been discriminated against, in
one way or

Speech On Veganism
Veganism and Meat eaters
What is the best diet
All around the world, there has been an increase in Veganism. So what is Veganism? Veganism is a
diet that rejects eating animal products like dairy, meat and poultry and in some cases honey from
bees. Many people have been favouring Veganism because of it healthier and enhanced diet. I'm here
to prove it straight that veganism and a balanced diet is a better diet than our current one.
Firstly, back at history, our ancestors didn't eatmeat and dairy like us because it was much pricier
than now and they only ate meat and dairy at a special occasion, but ever since the 1940 meat and
dairy price plummeted down due to it easier production in food factories. This increased the demand
for meat and...show more content...
Firstly your health will improve due to eating more vegetables nearly all the nutrients are available
in the vegan diet; also you reduce the chance of illness like cancer and diabetes. Besides being a
vegan doesn't mean you have to restrict yourself from sugar products; dark chocolate is one product
that doesn't have a dairy. Presently more vegan ice–creams and cakes are appearing more widespread
in the world like the brand ben and jerry ice creams. Also, Veganism is more environmentally
sustainable.it becoming well known that 1,600 gallons of water are needed to produce a single
pound of beef. Also producing one pound of animal protein requires about 100 times more water
than producing one pound of grain protein. Furthermore, cattle raising can destroy forests by the
cattle if it overgrazed the land leaving no vegetation's, also cattle raising produce methane a gas

Reflection Speech
Initially, when I first registered to enroll for this online Speech class, I did not know what to
expect. I thought that we would only meet in order to present the required speeches and then I
thought that we would have a virtual classroom to give speeches were we were all online at once.
Now I know that both of my guesses were wrong. For our speeches, we either record them online
and invite classmates as audience members to watch, or have a live audience of family and/or
friends that record you giving your speech in your living room or somewhere similar. When I found
out that these were the ways I would be giving my speeches, I was so surprised. When I am
speaking in front of a live audience in a classroom, I get so nervous, so I thought that this method of
giving presentations might be less anxious for me.
The first speech was the Most Embarrassing Moment speech. I honestly was still so nervous to
record this even though I would just be looking at my computer screen. It felt kind of weird,
almost as if I was video chatting with myself. After I memorized my speech and sent in my
recording, I immediately assumed that I failed because the professor would think that I was too
close to the screen or I was too loud or I moved my head around a lot. Then I ended up getting an
A on it. Everything I thought that I did wrong was either irrelevant or did not distract from my
presentation as a whole. Since I only missed one point, I can say that what I did well was all the

The Features of Written Language and Speech Essay
The Features of Written Language and Speech
In English language there are two different ways of actually presenting language. These are written
language and speech. These two factors of speech both include many different features between
themselves. These features are mostly opposite to each other as they are completely different ways
of presenting language.
Written language is structured into paragraphs unlike general speech which is hardly thought about
before being said and is flowing naturally. There is also syntax used inwriting as sentences are
structured as more time and thought is put into writing, however in speech, sentences are less
structured and there are a variety of short and...show more content...
Spoken language can be directed to a number of people whereas written language can be directed
to many but is still very personal and confidential. It can be read at a reader's individual pace so
he/she does not have to keep up with the writer. This is different to when speech is used it is often
directed to a group of people and even if it is a one to one conversation the speech is usually
transient which means it is directly responded to but however it is then forgotten. This does clash
with written language as we understand it to be permanent which has been used in many
circumstances as proof of something as it cannot be changed. Also when speaking to an audience the
speech can be amended almost instantly whereas in written language it takes time and thought to
configure exactly what needs to be written.
Often when talking, a tone of voice is used, a pitch of voice and the stress put into words. These
are all called prosodic features which convey emotion within speech. This emotion cannot be
reflected in written language it can only be shown during speech. Paragraphs also help writing to
flow whereas in speech the conversations usually have digressions which help it flow adequately.
Words can be repeated plenty of times as it can help to prove a point however during written
language repetition does not look of good quality

Persuasive Essay On Freedom Of Speech
Freedom of speech in America is defined by the right to express any opinions without any
censorship or restraint. But it isn't just defined by the words people speak aloud. It's the actions
they take part in to support the words they express. The writing of books and essays, creating
artwork, giving speeches to grand crowds, voting, protesting. But do all people have the right to
speak their mind? Should people be able to speak freely, to express opinions and thoughts, as
promised in the United States constitution? A controversial topic, with many different opinions
weighing in from around the world.
Speech is expression of thoughts, through many different actions. Some include writing, artwork,
speeches, protests. On occasion in speaking...show more content...
With all these truths, and the freedom to speak them, comes the question of who should hold the
power and ability to speak their minds. In the United States, our society believes everyone should
have the right to freedom of speech, to voice thoughts and opinions. Written down in the
constitution is the promise to citizen rights, to all peoples who want to exercise those rights. "It
was we the people; not we, the white male citizens," who built up our nation and society, and the
promise to freedom of speech (Anthony, par. 4). Women, children, teens, those of color should all
be able to speak freely, to give shape to the opinions they hold like all the empowered men that
speak freely. Not all governments and nations feel the same about this. In Singapore, they have their
"own standards of social order as reflected in [their] laws" (Reyes, par. 3). Different nations feel
differently about human rights and laws as presented by the United States, including freedom of
speech, whether it is safe for everyone to speak their minds or just best to keep it to those who are
fed lies from those of a higher position.
With freedom of speech can come violence, a common reason for nations and governments to deny
this right. Some societies, such as Singapore, agree that by enforcing certain laws that abide the
government keep said nation "orderly and relatively crime–free" (Reyes, par. 3). Freedom of speech
can also mean

Writing A Speech Outline
In preparation for the speech I have read chapters 1–4 from the book. I have made it a point to
familiarize myself with the speech outline given. The easiest for me was reading. The book is quite
interesting and is easier to read than my other textbooks. The most challenging is the choice of
topic. I have trouble decided what I can pick to have the best effect on my audience. After I don't
want to write something I know I haven't put all my thought into. If that were the case I would risk
having a dull speech, which isn't fun for anyone.

Reflective Speech
One specific event in my life determined whether or not I was able to graduate from Torrance
High School in 2017. The English assignment was given to every student in the senior class a
month in advance and our entire English class for the month was focused on this speech to be
written up. This specific speech was supposed to be recited by several of my peers as well as the
"Review Board". It was supposed to be a total of five minutes to qualify as a passing grade. Every
student was supposed to be dressed in business attire for the presentation. On June third at three
o'clock, I was supposed to meet up with six of my peers in room C201 which is in the math
building on the second floor. We had to put our names on the board to determine which student
went first. I decided to go forth because all the other spots were filled. I stood up in front of the
podium and I gave my speech. My topic was about the struggles men face when wearing makeup
in public. During the speech, I felt my voice a little unsteady. I kept my speech at a good speed so
that I would be able to make the time mark. Meanwhile, I was making direct eye contact with
everyone in the room. When the speech was coming to an end I saw one of three members of the
review board lift up a white flash card in the air meaning I had met my time mark. I ended my
speech and moments later the next student went up. The speeches were graded at the exact
moment you were reciting it, every student wanted to get a good grade. Once everyone finished
they told us to stick around if we wanted to know our grades. I still felt a little nervous even when
it was over, I remember my grade clearly being a ninety–seven out of one hundred. Even before
beginning to write my speech I had to incorporate soft and hard skills whenever I faced an
educational obstacle. I used my prior skills that became a habit over time of being prepared for
anything whether it was tests or group presentations. The first skill I focused on was practicing for
my presentation. I also had family and friends listen to my speech. I found myself more relaxed
giving my speech in front of an audience the more I practiced. The second thing that I focused on to
make my speech interesting was having good enough

roots, which supplement us with knowledge and help us to grow. If I was Head Girl, I would be
like the manure which the gardener spreads to enrich the ground, just that little added extra can

about having the trust of the student body to organise and represent them with honesty and
enthusiasm, whenever called upon. I have the compassion to listen, the ability to always work

Essay on Public Speech
Public Speech1. To give a good speech you must adapt your speech to your audience. There are
two steps in the adaptaion process. First, there is preparation before the speech. This is done may
times by having your audience fill out an audience analysis form, this will give you the
demographics on your audience and allow you to adapt your speech accordingly. The second part
of adapting your speech is during the speech. This is done by paying attention to your audience
while you are giving the speech. You must adapt your speech so that the audience is able to
understand and are convinced by our speech. Also, you need to assess how you think the audience
will respond to what you are saying. 2. There are several ways to gauge...show more content...
First you should fall back on all the information you already know. The library and the internet
would both be very helpful in researching the topic. In the library one could use encyclopedias, as
well as books on the topic of world hunger. It is possible to use periodicals and magazine articles
from the library too. The web would also be a good source of information. You could use various
search engines to find sites on world hunger, but you must be careful that the sites you visit are
viable. An alternative is going to an already established site, such as CNN, and then search those
sites for an article about the topic. 4. When using statistics in your speech you should always
make sure that you information is accurate. You should also make sure not to use too many
statistics, or your work will get too bogged down with numbers. You should also make sure that
the statistics you gather are representative of the total number of people in the group. You should
always identify the sources of your statistics, to prove to your audience that your information is
accurate. It is also a good idea to explain your statistics and why they are important to you specific
purpose. Also, if statistics are complicated and go to the second or third decimal position you should
round them off to the first whole number, so that it will make your information easier to understand.
5. There are five basic patterns of organizing the main points in your speech.

The Difference between Writing and Speaking
It has been stated by numerous linguists that writing and speaking, although linguistically similar
are still different. This essay shall look at various aspects of writing such as how it differs from
verbal speech, how it is similar to verbal speech and how writing systems functions. It will draw
not only from Harley's The Psychology of Language but also from the work of both Kalb in The
Uses of the History of Writing and Justeson in The Origin of Writing Systems. This essay shall not
only discuss the aspects of writing systems but also how they came about and what purpose writing
serves in language and communication.
According to Harley (2008), written language production offers the producer a greater amount of
time to think about what they are writing rather than the rapid speech of a speaker. This therefore
means that written texts are less likely to have grammatical errors and are more conducive to
fluid conveyance of meaning. This also indicates writing is also often slower than speech. Another
aspect to consider is the fact that speech is usually a social activity while writing is primarily done
alone. In this way, it can be said that writing is more personal than speech as well as more
consciously thought about. According to Chafe in 1985 (as seen in Harley, 2008, p. 447) these are
the key differences between spoken language and written language.
In The Uses of the History of Writing, Kalb mentions that writing as a subject is a relatively new
field of study and

Persuasive Speech : Effective Communication
In writing it's important to have an understanding of what you're trying to convey for your audience
in addition to how you you will present your ideas. Effective communication extends beyond having
well organized writing expressed in complete and coherent sentences. The style, tone and clarity of
writing must also be considered, as they are constantly changing relative to the audience. Again,
analyzing one's audience and purpose is essential to successful writing. Appropriately, when choosing
the most effective language, it is important to consider the document objective as well as the reader.
In essence, this idea of effective use of language has been the overarching theme of this online
English course. Each writing assignment...show more content...
Thus, the style of language used within the text was often industry specific and possessed a more
academic feeling. For example, in the text I often used abbreviations and slang acceptable within the
discourse such as, SCM Supply chain management, KPI Key performance indicator, and RDT
Resource dependence. The word choice in this assignment is indicative of that fact that language is
chosen in a manner that is appropriate for both the audience and the purpose of the writing.
Furthermore, perhaps the greatest contrast and the most evident of how language works differently
in various types of writing is the discussion blog post. The blog post allowed the class to engage in
different types of formality of language. The formality of the language one uses should match the
formality of the situation and the relationship between the writer and reader. Therefore, as the
public audience was a class of online students taking a required writing course in the summer, the
formality of my writing has often been very informal. For example, in my blog post addressing
my concern over the unworthy power of BeyoncГ© I wrote, "It was the year 2008 when the
world was blessed with the images of BeyoncГ© (unapologetically) dancing around in a leotard.
Not only is BeyoncГ©'s single lady video one of her most notable hits it begins her what is now a
decade long relationship ending spree" (Marquis, 2016 ). The formality

Speech : A Reflection Of An Informative Speech
Informative Speech Reflection Paper After giving and analyzing my informative speech I learned
many new things that will help me in my future speeches. Looking at the aspects of content,
delivery, and organization I have learned by gibing this speech and being in this class how to
better come across to my audience to make my topic as clear and as informative as I can. This
assignment has helped me gain a better understanding of my topic, but also has helped me gain
further knowledge on writing and giving my speech to an audience, along with opened my eyes to
improvements I need to make in my future speeches. I have learned many new techniques and
aspects to include in my speeches to make my future speeches better. Content is a very important
part of an informative speech. I focused a lot on having strong points in my informative speech. I
focused on discussing the types of service dogs, and the qualifications to have a service dog,
along with the training a service dog undergoes. My main points I chose to include in my
informative speech I expressed very well and went into a good amount of detail, however in some
areas I could have given a more in–depth explanation. One thing I could have improved on in regard
to my content would have been giving more background information on serve dogs, by including
things like how long they have been around and the number of service dogs currently in the U.S. By
doing this I would have added not only more content to my speech,

Speech : The Power Of Speech
The Power of Speech Speech is a powerful tool, if used correctly. Speech can do many things, but
there are two main things that speech is the best at. It can create and embellish as it pleases.
Well–spoken words can also twist the truth and manipulate. Richard the Third is an excellent
example of both these attributes. Richard uses the power of speech to gain what he wants. He
shows the success that this tool can bring if used carefully. Richard makes himself a saint, a
simple disabled innocent who is wronged by everyone. He also shows the failures it brings when
overconfidence and haste spoil it. He loses his charm as he no longer treads carefully and simply
drives his way through conversations. Richard is a good example of the power of speech as he
uses his persuasion to accomplish his goals. From the very beginning, Richard is shown as being
a highly persuasive individual. He is very careful to show himself as one who only speaks sweet
words making him a very compelling character. He flatters his way to his goals and pulls the wool
over everyone's eyes as he does so. There are several scenes throughout the play where Richard has
done this. In his attempt to woo Lady Anne, Richard is speaking to the enraged woman, noting on
that it is "wonderful when angels are so angry" (1.2.72). Richard's response to this seething rage is
to create a beautiful angry angel of her. Another attempt at this flattery is made when he responds
that "your [Lady Anne's] bedchamber" would be

SPEECH MECHANISM
Speech Mechanism Or Production of speech Language has a very important social purpose, because
it is mainly used for linguistic communication. It can be used in two ways. It can be spoken or
written. But the medium of speech is more important than the medium of writing. Linguistic is a
systematic study of language. Phonetics is a branch of Linguistics and it is branch dealing with the
medium of speech. It deals with the production, transmission and reception of the sounds of human
speech. Now we discuss 'speech Mechanism' in a depth.
пЃ¶ What is Speech Mechanism:– For the production of speech sounds we need an air–stream. The

It is through the trachea or windpipe that the air we breathe in passes through the throat into the
lungs. The act that is known as respiratory involves two processes.
Inspiration–Taking outer air into lungs.
Expiration–Throwing out air from the lungs into the outer atmosphere. The lungs serve as a source
of air and the source of energy for production of speech is generally the air stream coming out of
lungs.
(2) The Phonetary system:– The Phonetary system consists of larynx. The larynx is the little box
that is called the 'Adam's apple', situated at the top of the windpipe. The air from the lungs comes
out through the windpipe and the larynx. In the larynx, there are situated a pair of like structure
called vocal cords and these are placed horizontally from front to back. They are attached in front
and can be separated to the back. The opening between the cords is called the glottis is called the
glottis. The vocal cards can be opened and closed. The vibration of vocal cords is very significant
in speech. When they are kept loosely together, they vibrate and that the vibration produces a
musical not called voice. The rate of vibration is called frequency of vibration. This decides the
pitch of the voice which helps to create the intonation of a language.
(3) The articulator system:– The articulatory system consists of the roof the mouth, the tongue,

One of the speeches that I believe really encapsulates the audience's emotion is the speech "Faith,

is able to use to context to create emotions from the audience through the use of form and language
techniques. The opening of the speech displays a humble woman through the use of sincerity in her
tone, "I first would like to thank the Indigenous people". This opening has emotionally drawn the
audience into listening to her purpose – that is to show that people have the ability to overcome
adversity and find common ground. It sets an example of finding common ground for the audience.
Furthermore, Bandler creates pathos effectively in addressing a pivotal issue such as people power
and racism. By drawing upon the audience's emotions, the speech was great and successful by using
techniques such as cumulation in, 'have lived, breathed, struggled and climbed...' and inclusive
personal pronouns, "we must ask ourselves... we are not to forget..." which evoke imagery and
emotions that provoke the audience to think of their wrong–doings and understand that their
acceptance ability to see light will create a better world. Also, through the use of rhetoric in achieving
pathos, Atwood, who presented the speech during the critical time frame during the

Importance Of Writing A Speech
How do you prepare yourself when a speech does not go the way you are use to it going and a
meeting is called without early notice? There is no time to rehearse it, let alone write it out.
When you read your speech word by word does it take skills to make the voice sound good? I am
a note taker; therefore, can having to many notes be a bad thing when you are on stage giving a
speech? I was asked to speak at my high school graduating class and was informed that I will not
have to write my own speech, however, it was going to be all on a manuscript. Sounds easy right?
Wrong! I am not a comedian or a news anchor; therefore, I am going to sound like I am telling
them a story from inside a library. Giving a speech on a manuscript takes great skills. There are
good benefits of letting someone else write the speech, furthermore, it takes skills to make a
speech sound like it is coming from my heart and not sound like I am reading it word by word. It
is more interesting to see someone walk around and make eye contact, not be looking at a
monitor the whole time. For some, we write our own speech, organize it in a way the audience
will be engaged and understand it as well as rehearsing it to make it sound professional. However,
there are times there will be an unscheduled meeting with no time to write a speech, organize it, and
rehearse it. Therefore, listen to other employees on what they have to address or ideas about the
company and write your own notes down, it will be

method of treatment that involves learning new speech techniques (such as speaking

reducing the tendency of avoiding fearful situations such as speaking in front of a group. Speech

Differences Between Speech And Writing
Language is a unique and universal tool that we use to interact, communicate and convey ideas to
each other. It is an integral part of our culture, that helps construct an identity while also empowering
each person with the ability to express themselves. Language is described as being voluntary,
symbolic and systematic. These key factors contribute to the two main expressions of language being
speech and writing. Speech has existed since the dawn of humanity, whereas writing is thought to
have been around for a maximum of 8000 years, Gee & Hayes (2011). Although speech and writing
are the main modes of language, both are not always used. Speech and writing serve different
purposes and can be understood by examining important differences between the two. The purpose of
this report is to outline the differences between speech and writing in different contexts.
The Functions of Speech
Speech is the oral form of language and communication, thought to have dated back to the earliest
days of mankind. Oral communication consists of functions such as phonics, syntax, semantics and
pragmatics (Gee & Hayes, 2011). Social relationships, personal opinions and attitudes, are expressed
through speech, via the prosodic functions of English (Gee & Hayes, 2011). This form of
communication is referred to as face–to–face interaction, during this time, the speaker may begin to
use gestures and facial expressions to assist in conveying a message (Crystal, 2005). During speech,
the speaker may

Reflection Of Writing A Speech
A speech is the most public form of communication possible. A speaker presents themselves to a
group a people to express their thought on a subject. For some, writing a speech can be a difficult
process because of all the different things to consider in a speech. There's the exigence,
constraints, and audience that must structure the content of what a person has to say. In my
speech, I generally discuss the essence of hard work and dedication towards becoming a critical
thinker and not being afraid to be a leader. The serious and motivational tone of my speech is
emphasizing that that a person must worked hard in order to pass the course. The classmates,
professors, parents and additionally anyone who wants to do well in the course are also firstly
addressed in this in the speech as a sense of gratitude for contributing to the speaker's success.
This allows my speech to share the same attitude as Michelle Obama's commencement speech at
MLK magnet school and uses some of the same strategies discussed in Bitzer's article on
rhetorical analysis. In Michelle Obama's speech, she addresses the importance of hard work and
going the extra mile for a point on a test or paper. She cited from her own experience that she
would beg the teacher for an extra credit assignment and would stay up all night working on a
paper to make sure it was perfect and met the teacher's expectations. During that speech she urged
the graduating class to have that same determination and effort into every class assignment,
homework, and paper due in college. This use of pathos is meant to emphasize the point that
college is puts a lot of the responsibility and it's up to them to pave their road to success. In my
paper I used that same call to action with Forrest Gump as an example. At first it might just be
seen as a comic relief to add Forrest Gump into the story but as it continues, the audience starts to
understand the metaphor behind Gump and realized that he achieved a lot of great things against
the odds. In a way, Forrest Gump could be used as both a symbol humor in the face of adversity
and courage itself. Obama also mentioned how important it was to form a community once you start
college since it is a bigger and more

speech is almost over I feel like I am more capable of doing so. I think the thing I did best during
the semester was getting good information for each of my speeches. My favorite assignment was
most likely the impromptu speech. I really liked that one because we did not have to prepare an
outline or anything like that, we just got to go up there and speak. During this semester, I learned
a lot about how to give speeches such as the proper way to stand so I do not rock, or how to use
my hands to emphasize my points. In the future, I think that I will be able to control my speed better
during my speeches which will help the people I am presenting to understand my message. I
think the skills I have acquired during speech will help me for the rest of my life. No matter what
career I choose, I am sure that at some point I will have to present to someone about something.
The skills I learned in speech will also help me just communicate with people in a one on one
situation easier than I do now. I can use these skills throughout the rest of high school and through
my six years of college still to come because whenever I have to present a project I will know how to
effectively communicate my message to my audience.
Based off of all of my reflection sheets, video evaluations, and peer critiques I have improved over
the course of the semester. At the beginning of the semester I had a problem with speed and using
to many "filler" words. As the year progressed, my speed became more and more controllable and
I used less and less filler words. After my most recent speech, I'm still not quite at the level I want
to be at, but I am far better than I was at the very beginning. I think just speaking in front of people
more than I am used to doing has helped me develop better speaking skills and grow in my ability to
effectively communicate with others. Throughout the semester I learned a lot about speaking,
performing, and

Speech Writing Essay

  • 1. Discrimination Speech DISCRIMINATION SPEECH Discrimination, it is as old as human kind. Some people would say that discrimination is a type of abuse, falling into both the physiological and physical molds. The Homosapians committed this abuse against the Neanderthals, and I think we can all agree that it is one of the sources of most societal ills. Prejudice, bullying, racism are all types of discrimination. Machismo, Homophobia & stereotypes are also products of this abuse. Maybe there is a physiological explanation to all of this, maybe you were raised to discriminate against Jews or Asians, or maybe you had a bad experience with a black man and so you associate black people with that experience. Let's start of with Machismo. It has been around even...show more content... Depression, Social Anxiety, Anorexia, Bullmenia, Suicidal Tendencies, PTSD(Post–Traumatic–Stress–Disorder), and MANY others. All of these mental sicknesses can be caused by years of discrimination. Most of these when in severe levels or if they have been happening for a long time can and will put the persons LIFE in danger! My father, Robert Peters volunteered for 6 months at a Suicide Prevention Hotline, and said that of all of the calls he received in that time, roughly 85% of the calls were from gay people who, had been thrown out of the lives of their parents, families, friends and out of their homes, for no other reason except the fact that they were born gay and were trying to be themselves. If you are as shocked as I am by the amount of discrimination different people in our planet suffer, I will just tell you one thing, I am sure that every person in this hall has been discriminated against, in one way or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Speech On Veganism Veganism and Meat eaters What is the best diet All around the world, there has been an increase in Veganism. So what is Veganism? Veganism is a diet that rejects eating animal products like dairy, meat and poultry and in some cases honey from bees. Many people have been favouring Veganism because of it healthier and enhanced diet. I'm here to prove it straight that veganism and a balanced diet is a better diet than our current one. Firstly, back at history, our ancestors didn't eatmeat and dairy like us because it was much pricier than now and they only ate meat and dairy at a special occasion, but ever since the 1940 meat and dairy price plummeted down due to it easier production in food factories. This increased the demand for meat and...show more content... Firstly your health will improve due to eating more vegetables nearly all the nutrients are available in the vegan diet; also you reduce the chance of illness like cancer and diabetes. Besides being a vegan doesn't mean you have to restrict yourself from sugar products; dark chocolate is one product that doesn't have a dairy. Presently more vegan ice–creams and cakes are appearing more widespread in the world like the brand ben and jerry ice creams. Also, Veganism is more environmentally sustainable.it becoming well known that 1,600 gallons of water are needed to produce a single pound of beef. Also producing one pound of animal protein requires about 100 times more water than producing one pound of grain protein. Furthermore, cattle raising can destroy forests by the cattle if it overgrazed the land leaving no vegetation's, also cattle raising produce methane a gas more potent than 30 times the famous CO2 methane traps heat more than CO2 by 30 times and a cow produces about 86000 cubic litres of methane in a year to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Reflection Speech Initially, when I first registered to enroll for this online Speech class, I did not know what to expect. I thought that we would only meet in order to present the required speeches and then I thought that we would have a virtual classroom to give speeches were we were all online at once. Now I know that both of my guesses were wrong. For our speeches, we either record them online and invite classmates as audience members to watch, or have a live audience of family and/or friends that record you giving your speech in your living room or somewhere similar. When I found out that these were the ways I would be giving my speeches, I was so surprised. When I am speaking in front of a live audience in a classroom, I get so nervous, so I thought that this method of giving presentations might be less anxious for me. The first speech was the Most Embarrassing Moment speech. I honestly was still so nervous to record this even though I would just be looking at my computer screen. It felt kind of weird, almost as if I was video chatting with myself. After I memorized my speech and sent in my recording, I immediately assumed that I failed because the professor would think that I was too close to the screen or I was too loud or I moved my head around a lot. Then I ended up getting an A on it. Everything I thought that I did wrong was either irrelevant or did not distract from my presentation as a whole. Since I only missed one point, I can say that what I did well was all the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. The Features of Written Language and Speech Essay The Features of Written Language and Speech In English language there are two different ways of actually presenting language. These are written language and speech. These two factors of speech both include many different features between themselves. These features are mostly opposite to each other as they are completely different ways of presenting language. Written language is structured into paragraphs unlike general speech which is hardly thought about before being said and is flowing naturally. There is also syntax used inwriting as sentences are structured as more time and thought is put into writing, however in speech, sentences are less structured and there are a variety of short and...show more content... Spoken language can be directed to a number of people whereas written language can be directed to many but is still very personal and confidential. It can be read at a reader's individual pace so he/she does not have to keep up with the writer. This is different to when speech is used it is often directed to a group of people and even if it is a one to one conversation the speech is usually transient which means it is directly responded to but however it is then forgotten. This does clash with written language as we understand it to be permanent which has been used in many circumstances as proof of something as it cannot be changed. Also when speaking to an audience the speech can be amended almost instantly whereas in written language it takes time and thought to configure exactly what needs to be written. Often when talking, a tone of voice is used, a pitch of voice and the stress put into words. These are all called prosodic features which convey emotion within speech. This emotion cannot be reflected in written language it can only be shown during speech. Paragraphs also help writing to flow whereas in speech the conversations usually have digressions which help it flow adequately. Words can be repeated plenty of times as it can help to prove a point however during written language repetition does not look of good quality Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Freedom Of Speech Freedom of speech in America is defined by the right to express any opinions without any censorship or restraint. But it isn't just defined by the words people speak aloud. It's the actions they take part in to support the words they express. The writing of books and essays, creating artwork, giving speeches to grand crowds, voting, protesting. But do all people have the right to speak their mind? Should people be able to speak freely, to express opinions and thoughts, as promised in the United States constitution? A controversial topic, with many different opinions weighing in from around the world. Speech is expression of thoughts, through many different actions. Some include writing, artwork, speeches, protests. On occasion in speaking...show more content... With all these truths, and the freedom to speak them, comes the question of who should hold the power and ability to speak their minds. In the United States, our society believes everyone should have the right to freedom of speech, to voice thoughts and opinions. Written down in the constitution is the promise to citizen rights, to all peoples who want to exercise those rights. "It was we the people; not we, the white male citizens," who built up our nation and society, and the promise to freedom of speech (Anthony, par. 4). Women, children, teens, those of color should all be able to speak freely, to give shape to the opinions they hold like all the empowered men that speak freely. Not all governments and nations feel the same about this. In Singapore, they have their "own standards of social order as reflected in [their] laws" (Reyes, par. 3). Different nations feel differently about human rights and laws as presented by the United States, including freedom of speech, whether it is safe for everyone to speak their minds or just best to keep it to those who are fed lies from those of a higher position. With freedom of speech can come violence, a common reason for nations and governments to deny this right. Some societies, such as Singapore, agree that by enforcing certain laws that abide the government keep said nation "orderly and relatively crime–free" (Reyes, par. 3). Freedom of speech can also mean Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Writing A Speech Outline In preparation for the speech I have read chapters 1–4 from the book. I have made it a point to familiarize myself with the speech outline given. The easiest for me was reading. The book is quite interesting and is easier to read than my other textbooks. The most challenging is the choice of topic. I have trouble decided what I can pick to have the best effect on my audience. After I don't want to write something I know I haven't put all my thought into. If that were the case I would risk having a dull speech, which isn't fun for anyone. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Reflective Speech One specific event in my life determined whether or not I was able to graduate from Torrance High School in 2017. The English assignment was given to every student in the senior class a month in advance and our entire English class for the month was focused on this speech to be written up. This specific speech was supposed to be recited by several of my peers as well as the "Review Board". It was supposed to be a total of five minutes to qualify as a passing grade. Every student was supposed to be dressed in business attire for the presentation. On June third at three o'clock, I was supposed to meet up with six of my peers in room C201 which is in the math building on the second floor. We had to put our names on the board to determine which student went first. I decided to go forth because all the other spots were filled. I stood up in front of the podium and I gave my speech. My topic was about the struggles men face when wearing makeup in public. During the speech, I felt my voice a little unsteady. I kept my speech at a good speed so that I would be able to make the time mark. Meanwhile, I was making direct eye contact with everyone in the room. When the speech was coming to an end I saw one of three members of the review board lift up a white flash card in the air meaning I had met my time mark. I ended my speech and moments later the next student went up. The speeches were graded at the exact moment you were reciting it, every student wanted to get a good grade. Once everyone finished they told us to stick around if we wanted to know our grades. I still felt a little nervous even when it was over, I remember my grade clearly being a ninety–seven out of one hundred. Even before beginning to write my speech I had to incorporate soft and hard skills whenever I faced an educational obstacle. I used my prior skills that became a habit over time of being prepared for anything whether it was tests or group presentations. The first skill I focused on was practicing for my presentation. I also had family and friends listen to my speech. I found myself more relaxed giving my speech in front of an audience the more I practiced. The second thing that I focused on to make my speech interesting was having good enough Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I could promise you the world, like many candidates would, but you're too smart for that. So I'll tell it to you straight. Why I would like to serve as Head Girl. If I was Head Girl, I would be like the manure which the gardener spreads to enrich the ground, just that little added extra can make a big difference. I realise that, being Head Girl isn't about being better than anyone else. It's about having the trust of the student body to organise and represent them with honesty and enthusiasm, whenever called upon. I have the compassion to listen, the ability to always work hard, yet have a good sense of humour. So don't vote for me just because of my good looks and charming demeanour, although you might be tempted to do that. Vote for me because you have excellent taste and superb decision making skills! • 9. Essay on Public Speech Public Speech1. To give a good speech you must adapt your speech to your audience. There are two steps in the adaptaion process. First, there is preparation before the speech. This is done may times by having your audience fill out an audience analysis form, this will give you the demographics on your audience and allow you to adapt your speech accordingly. The second part of adapting your speech is during the speech. This is done by paying attention to your audience while you are giving the speech. You must adapt your speech so that the audience is able to understand and are convinced by our speech. Also, you need to assess how you think the audience will respond to what you are saying. 2. The library and the internet would both be very helpful in researching the topic. In the library one could use encyclopedias, as well as books on the topic of world hunger. It is possible to use periodicals and magazine articles from the library too. The web would also be a good source of information. You could use various search engines to find sites on world hunger, but you must be careful that the sites you visit are viable. An alternative is going to an already established site, such as CNN, and then search those sites for an article about the topic. 4. When using statistics in your speech you should always make sure that you information is accurate. You should also make sure not to use too many statistics, or your work will get too bogged down with numbers. You should also make sure that the statistics you gather are representative of the total number of people in the group. You should always identify the sources of your statistics, to prove to your audience that your information is accurate. It is also a good idea to explain your statistics and why they are important to you specific purpose. Also, if statistics are complicated and go to the second or third decimal position you should round them off to the first whole number, so that it will make your information easier to understand. 5. • 10. The Difference between Writing and Speaking It has been stated by numerous linguists that writing and speaking, although linguistically similar are still different. This essay shall look at various aspects of writing such as how it differs from verbal speech, how it is similar to verbal speech and how writing systems functions. It will draw not only from Harley's The Psychology of Language but also from the work of both Kalb in The Uses of the History of Writing and Justeson in The Origin of Writing Systems. This essay shall not only discuss the aspects of writing systems but also how they came about and what purpose writing serves in language and communication. According to Harley (2008), written language production offers the producer a greater amount of time to think about what they are writing rather than the rapid speech of a speaker. This therefore means that written texts are less likely to have grammatical errors and are more conducive to fluid conveyance of meaning. This also indicates writing is also often slower than speech. Another aspect to consider is the fact that speech is usually a social activity while writing is primarily done alone. In this way, it can be said that writing is more personal than speech as well as more consciously thought about. According to Chafe in 1985 (as seen in Harley, 2008, p. 447) these are the key differences between spoken language and written language. In The Uses of the History of Writing, Kalb mentions that writing as a subject is a relatively new field of study and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Persuasive Speech : Effective Communication In writing it's important to have an understanding of what you're trying to convey for your audience in addition to how you you will present your ideas. Effective communication extends beyond having well organized writing expressed in complete and coherent sentences. The style, tone and clarity of writing must also be considered, as they are constantly changing relative to the audience. Again, analyzing one's audience and purpose is essential to successful writing. Appropriately, when choosing the most effective language, it is important to consider the document objective as well as the reader. In essence, this idea of effective use of language has been the overarching theme of this online English course. Each writing assignment...show more content... Thus, the style of language used within the text was often industry specific and possessed a more academic feeling. For example, in the text I often used abbreviations and slang acceptable within the discourse such as, SCM Supply chain management, KPI Key performance indicator, and RDT Resource dependence. The word choice in this assignment is indicative of that fact that language is chosen in a manner that is appropriate for both the audience and the purpose of the writing. Furthermore, perhaps the greatest contrast and the most evident of how language works differently in various types of writing is the discussion blog post. The blog post allowed the class to engage in different types of formality of language. The formality of the language one uses should match the formality of the situation and the relationship between the writer and reader. Therefore, as the public audience was a class of online students taking a required writing course in the summer, the formality of my writing has often been very informal. For example, in my blog post addressing my concern over the unworthy power of BeyoncГ© I wrote, "It was the year 2008 when the world was blessed with the images of BeyoncГ© (unapologetically) dancing around in a leotard. Not only is BeyoncГ©'s single lady video one of her most notable hits it begins her what is now a decade long relationship ending spree" (Marquis, 2016 ). Speech : A Reflection Of An Informative Speech Informative Speech Reflection Paper After giving and analyzing my informative speech I learned many new things that will help me in my future speeches. Looking at the aspects of content, delivery, and organization I have learned by gibing this speech and being in this class how to better come across to my audience to make my topic as clear and as informative as I can. This assignment has helped me gain a better understanding of my topic, but also has helped me gain further knowledge on writing and giving my speech to an audience, along with opened my eyes to improvements I need to make in my future speeches. I have learned many new techniques and aspects to include in my speeches to make my future speeches better. Content is a very important part of an informative speech. I focused a lot on having strong points in my informative speech. I focused on discussing the types of service dogs, and the qualifications to have a service dog, along with the training a service dog undergoes. My main points I chose to include in my informative speech I expressed very well and went into a good amount of detail, however in some areas I could have given a more in–depth explanation. One thing I could have improved on in regard to my content would have been giving more background information on serve dogs, by including things like how long they have been around and the number of service dogs currently in the U.S. By doing this I would have added not only more content to my speech, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Speech : The Power Of Speech The Power of Speech Speech is a powerful tool, if used correctly. Speech can do many things, but there are two main things that speech is the best at. It can create and embellish as it pleases. Well–spoken words can also twist the truth and manipulate. Richard the Third is an excellent example of both these attributes. Richard uses the power of speech to gain what he wants. He shows the success that this tool can bring if used carefully. Richard makes himself a saint, a simple disabled innocent who is wronged by everyone. He also shows the failures it brings when overconfidence and haste spoil it. He loses his charm as he no longer treads carefully and simply drives his way through conversations. Richard is a good example of the power of speech as he uses his persuasion to accomplish his goals. From the very beginning, Richard is shown as being a highly persuasive individual. He is very careful to show himself as one who only speaks sweet words making him a very compelling character. He flatters his way to his goals and pulls the wool over everyone's eyes as he does so. There are several scenes throughout the play where Richard has done this. In his attempt to woo Lady Anne, Richard is speaking to the enraged woman, noting on that it is "wonderful when angels are so angry" (1.2.72). Richard's response to this seething rage is to create a beautiful angry angel of her. It is through the trachea or windpipe that the air we breathe in passes through the throat into the lungs. The act that is known as respiratory involves two processes. Inspiration–Taking outer air into lungs. Expiration–Throwing out air from the lungs into the outer atmosphere. The lungs serve as a source of air and the source of energy for production of speech is generally the air stream coming out of lungs. (2) The Phonetary system:– The Phonetary system consists of larynx. The larynx is the little box that is called the 'Adam's apple', situated at the top of the windpipe. The air from the lungs comes out through the windpipe and the larynx. In the larynx, there are situated a pair of like structure called vocal cords and these are placed horizontally from front to back. They are attached in front and can be separated to the back. The opening between the cords is called the glottis is called the glottis. The vocal cards can be opened and closed. The vibration of vocal cords is very significant in speech. When they are kept loosely together, they vibrate and that the vibration produces a musical not called voice. The rate of vibration is called frequency of vibration. • 15. Speech Essay in Speech Format. You have been invited to give a speech to the Australian Speaking Society on the topic 'great speeches – the secret of success.' Write the transcript for the speech including references to at least three speeches set for study. *** Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American essayist, lecturer and poet of the mid–19th century once said: "Speech is power: speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel," and how correct is he even today. Speeches are an essential form of communication in our society as it has the capabilities to approach concerning issues in either a serious or humorous way. One of the speeches that I believe really encapsulates the audience's emotion is the speech "Faith, Hope and Reconciliation" spoken in 1999 at a Reconciliation Convention in Wollongong by Faith Bandler. It was presented in a social and political landscape mistrust and racial tension and Bandler's is able to use to context to create emotions from the audience through the use of form and language techniques. The opening of the speech displays a humble woman through the use of sincerity in her tone, "I first would like to thank the Indigenous people". This opening has emotionally drawn the audience into listening to her purpose – that is to show that people have the ability to overcome adversity and find common ground. It sets an example of finding common ground for the audience. Furthermore, Bandler creates pathos effectively in addressing a pivotal issue such as people power and racism. By drawing upon the audience's emotions, the speech was great and successful by using techniques such as cumulation in, 'have lived, breathed, struggled and climbed...' and inclusive personal pronouns, "we must ask ourselves... we are not to forget..." which evoke imagery and emotions that provoke the audience to think of their wrong–doings and understand that their acceptance ability to see light will create a better world. • 16. Importance Of Writing A Speech How do you prepare yourself when a speech does not go the way you are use to it going and a meeting is called without early notice? There is no time to rehearse it, let alone write it out. When you read your speech word by word does it take skills to make the voice sound good? I am a note taker; therefore, can having to many notes be a bad thing when you are on stage giving a speech? I was asked to speak at my high school graduating class and was informed that I will not have to write my own speech, however, it was going to be all on a manuscript. Sounds easy right? Wrong! I am not a comedian or a news anchor; therefore, I am going to sound like I am telling them a story from inside a library. Giving a speech on a manuscript takes great skills. There are good benefits of letting someone else write the speech, furthermore, it takes skills to make a speech sound like it is coming from my heart and not sound like I am reading it word by word. It is more interesting to see someone walk around and make eye contact, not be looking at a monitor the whole time. For some, we write our own speech, organize it in a way the audience will be engaged and understand it as well as rehearsing it to make it sound professional. However, there are times there will be an unscheduled meeting with no time to write a speech, organize it, and rehearse it. Therefore, listen to other employees on what they have to address or ideas about the company and write your own notes down, it will be Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. Differences Between Speech And Writing Language is a unique and universal tool that we use to interact, communicate and convey ideas to each other. It is an integral part of our culture, that helps construct an identity while also empowering each person with the ability to express themselves. Language is described as being voluntary, symbolic and systematic. These key factors contribute to the two main expressions of language being speech and writing. Speech has existed since the dawn of humanity, whereas writing is thought to have been around for a maximum of 8000 years, Gee & Hayes (2011). Although speech and writing are the main modes of language, both are not always used. Speech and writing serve different purposes and can be understood by examining important differences between the two. The purpose of this report is to outline the differences between speech and writing in different contexts. The Functions of Speech Speech is the oral form of language and communication, thought to have dated back to the earliest days of mankind. Oral communication consists of functions such as phonics, syntax, semantics and pragmatics (Gee & Hayes, 2011). Social relationships, personal opinions and attitudes, are expressed through speech, via the prosodic functions of English (Gee & Hayes, 2011). This form of communication is referred to as face–to–face interaction, during this time, the speaker may begin to use gestures and facial expressions to assist in conveying a message (Crystal, 2005). • 19. Reflection Of Writing A Speech A speech is the most public form of communication possible. A speaker presents themselves to a group a people to express their thought on a subject. For some, writing a speech can be a difficult process because of all the different things to consider in a speech. There's the exigence, constraints, and audience that must structure the content of what a person has to say. In my speech, I generally discuss the essence of hard work and dedication towards becoming a critical thinker and not being afraid to be a leader. The serious and motivational tone of my speech is emphasizing that that a person must worked hard in order to pass the course. The classmates, professors, parents and additionally anyone who wants to do well in the course are also firstly addressed in this in the speech as a sense of gratitude for contributing to the speaker's success. This allows my speech to share the same attitude as Michelle Obama's commencement speech at MLK magnet school and uses some of the same strategies discussed in Bitzer's article on rhetorical analysis. In Michelle Obama's speech, she addresses the importance of hard work and going the extra mile for a point on a test or paper. She cited from her own experience that she would beg the teacher for an extra credit assignment and would stay up all night working on a paper to make sure it was perfect and met the teacher's expectations. During that speech she urged the graduating class to have that same determination and effort into every class assignment, homework, and paper due in college. This use of pathos is meant to emphasize the point that college is puts a lot of the responsibility and it's up to them to pave their road to success. In my paper I used that same call to action with Forrest Gump as an example. At first it might just be seen as a comic relief to add Forrest Gump into the story but as it continues, the audience starts to understand the metaphor behind Gump and realized that he achieved a lot of great things against the odds. In a way, Forrest Gump could be used as both a symbol humor in the face of adversity and courage itself. Obama also mentioned how important it was to form a community once you start college since it is a bigger and more Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Speech Reflection Essay During speech class this semester, I gave several different types of speeches on several different topics. During this semester, my ability to give speeches in front of an audience has improved quite a bit, I hope. Going into the semester, I had a really hard time giving speeches to people, but now that speech is almost over I feel like I am more capable of doing so. I think the thing I did best during the semester was getting good information for each of my speeches. My favorite assignment was most likely the impromptu speech. I really liked that one because we did not have to prepare an outline or anything like that, we just got to go up there and speak. During this semester, I learned a lot about how to give speeches such as the proper way to stand so I do not rock, or how to use my hands to emphasize my points. In the future, I think that I will be able to control my speed better during my speeches which will help the people I am presenting to understand my message. I think the skills I have acquired during speech will help me for the rest of my life. No matter what career I choose, I am sure that at some point I will have to present to someone about something. The skills I learned in speech will also help me just communicate with people in a one on one situation easier than I do now. I can use these skills throughout the rest of high school and through my six years of college still to come because whenever I have to present a project I will know how to effectively communicate my message to my audience. Based off of all of my reflection sheets, video evaluations, and peer critiques I have improved over the course of the semester. At the beginning of the semester I had a problem with speed and using to many "filler" words. As the year progressed, my speed became more and more controllable and I used less and less filler words. After my most recent speech, I'm still not quite at the level I want to be at, but I am far better than I was at the very beginning. I think just speaking in front of people more than I am used to doing has helped me develop better speaking skills and grow in my ability to effectively communicate with others. Throughout the semester I learned a lot about speaking, performing, and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
