5. What we mean when we say STEM
STEM education is the integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics to
solve complex, real-world problems. Employers of STEM-related jobs in Michigan and
nationwide are challenged to meet the talent requirements needed to stay competitive
globally.

8. Student Perceptions
This activity lasted a couple of weeks and was very different in what the students were
used to. The compilation and applying the data to different scenarios was challenging
for the students. This lesson was completely different from anything I have done. Lead
the students through each step.

10. • The STEM consultants were invaluable with the use of the UAV, satellite data and ArcGIS
mapping. Temperature and light probes are needed-use of Vernier products.
• Standards HS-PS4-1.2.3.4.5. along with the Engineering, Technology and Applications
• Already had a light intensity lab activity
• Data and information were collected by the student, data changed as the day progressed
• Lesson was current and applied varied technology
• Lesson itself was part assessment, part activity
• Took too long 1st time doing this activity
• Found out the GoPro camera need an IR lens, cellophane filters do not work very well.
• Prep time was extensive – some things changed as we went through the lesson.
