Snowcrest Jr. High Media Center
Acceptable Use Policy
Dear Parents, Students, and Staff:
The media center offers accessibility to various electronic devices, and provides internet use for educational purposes. Therefore, it is imperative that users support the requirements for appropriate use as described. This policy addresses all library computers and electronic devices used in the media center—or checked out by students, staff, or parents. Individually owned devices are subject to this policy while utilized in the library.
The following categories define the expectations for actions and behaviors regarding library properties and accompanying internet use. Users are subject to all school and district electronics and internet policies, and must sign this document prior to use. Consequences for violations are addressed.
Electronics Standards
The use of all library electronics requires patrons to care for and comply with the following expectations.
I WILL NOT
 Intentionally damage library electronics.
 Eat or drink near library electronics.
 Remove keys or letters on keyboards.
 Alter hardware, software, or intentionally harm electronics.
 Install, download, or upload unauthorized software.
 Alter computer, network, or security settings.
Network and Internet Use Standards
The following list addresses user behavior standards and applies to all school or other networks and internet access on library electronics.
I WILL NOT
 Login to another’s account.
 Remain on another’s account if the user has not logged off beforehand.
 Acquire another user’s password to login or access accounts, files, documents, school projects, or emails.
 Share or distribute others’ information.
 Use devices to harass or intimidate.
 Intentionally view inappropriate materials on library electronics or on owned devices on school premises or in the library.
 Plagiarize.
 Violate copyright laws.
Privacy Standards
Library computers belong to the school district. Thus, documents, files, and emails written or created on library electronics may be viewed by school officials and/or system administrators, if necessary.
Consequences
Student violations of any parts of the Acceptable use Policy may result in school suspension. Violators may be denied future use for at least one term—up to an entire school year, depending on the nature of the violation. Certain violations require administrative discipline, suspension, and/or employee termination.
By signing this policy, I acknowledge and agree to support all parts of the Snowcrest Jr. High Library Acceptable Use Policy. My signature indicates that I am aware of—and support the consequences and disciplinary actions that may result from the mis-use of any library electronics, computers, or accompanying internet access.
