Writing is not just a school subject. Writing is lifework. Writing about our lives, living what we write, and understanding the power of our words is what makes us human. We can no longer afford to teach writing and reading divorced from real life. We must explore lessons, resources, and new technologies that prepare our students for the lifework of writing and empower them to share their voices with the world!

terriorites are ultimately a profile of who you are as a writer. Help you to see yourself. Not just the topics but who you are and how others see you. What you’re about. What your voice will contribute. It gives other writers a window into who you are. Not just to be your audience, but to support you. If you use this technique then we are really a community. (blog categories are sort of like writing territories. An embodiment of what you value. What you believe your voice will add to. Gives a place to go when trying to figure out what to write next. An idea bank that reminds me, “oh yeah -- that’s what I want to do with my voice.” The idea notebook helps me jot down those ideas. The hardest thing about being a good writer, sometimes I look at a blank page, I don’t know where to start. (model with kids on how to overcome it)
