Consul is a service for dynamic Service Discovery, a Distributed Key Value store, and Lock Manager service. It provides a lot of useful features for a modern admin, and provides a good complement to Puppet's feature set. Dylan Cochran of Onyx Point Inc will be showing us how to use Puppet to manage consul, how to use consul to implement advanced administrator actions, and how to use consul to store configuration data that can be used in your puppet modules.

Docker 1.12 is on everyone's lips these day. With built in Swarm mode, we can achieve orchestration out of the box with simplicity, reliability, and effective scalability. I had the pleasure of presenting Docker 1.12 and Swarm at a DevOps meetup held at SA Home Loans. The container abstraction hit the collective developer mind with great force and created a space of innovation for the distribution, configuration and deployment of cloud based applications. Now that this new model has established itself work is moving towards orchestration and coordination of loosely coupled network services. There is an explosion of tools in this arena at different degrees of stability but the momentum is huge. On the above premise this session we'll delve into a selection of the following topics: - Two minute Docker intro refresher - Overview of the orchestration landscape (Kubernetes, Mesos, Helios and Docker tools) - Introduction to Docker own ecosystem orchestration tools (machine, swarm and compose) - Live demo of cluster management using a sample application. A basic understanding of Docker is suggested to fully enjoy the talk.

At DockerCon EU we introduced Docker Swarm: a Docker-native clustering system. It allows you to connect to a single Docker endpoint and run containers on an entire cluster. Docker Swarm comes with a simple discovery service, for an easy setup. If you already have a discover service within your infrastructure like consul or etcd, you can use those instead.

InfraKit is a toolkit for infrastructure orchestration. With an emphasis on immutable infrastructure, it breaks down infrastructure automation and management processes into small, pluggable components. These components work together to actively ensure the infrastructure state matches the user's specifications. InfraKit therefore provides infrastructure support for higher-level container orchestration systems and can make your infrastructure self-managing and self-healing.

In an environment where cloud-scaling applications is becoming more and more important, client-server architectures paradigms, as shown by memcached, are back with vengeance. In this talk, Galder will talk about Hot Rod, Infinispan's new client/server binary protocol, explaining the key differences compared to memcached's binary protocol, such as the possibility of receiving cluster topology changes. Audience of this talk will learn of the importance of Hot Rod in 'cloud-scale' application server clustering, where stateless application server instances could use Infinispan Hot Rod clients to retrieve state from an elastic farm of Infinispan Hot Rod servers, improving capabilities to run application server instances as a PaaS. The talk will finish with a brief demo of a cluster of Infinispan Hot Rod servers running on EC2 being accessed from a non-Java client. The audience is expected to have an intermediate understanding of client-server software architectures and cloud deployments.

Open vSwitch (OVS) has long been a critical component of the Neutron's reference implementation, offering reliable and flexible virtual switching for cloud environments. Being an early adopter of the OVS technology, Neutron's reference implementation made some compromises to stay within the early, stable featureset OVS exposed. In particular, Security Groups (SG) have been so far implemented by leveraging hybrid Linux Bridging and IPTables, which come at a significant performance overhead. However, thanks to recent developments and ongoing improvements within the OVS community, we are now able to implement feature-complete security groups directly within OVS. In this talk we will summarize the existing Security Groups implementation in Neutron and compare its performance with the Open vSwitch-only approach. We hope this analysis will form the foundation of future improvements to the Neutron Open vSwitch reference design.

Slides from Chris Swan's ONUG Academy "Hands-On Container Networks" on May 12, 2015 This hands on session will begin by looking at how Docker modifies a Linux host to enable containers to be connected to a network. It will then go through how applications running in containers can be connected together, and the different options for interconnectivity on a host and between hosts. Finally we will take a look at running network application services inside of containers. Syllabus Learn what Docker does to your Linux host on installation. Connect applications running across multiple containers using configuration metadata and compositing tools. Understand the different Docker networking modes (host, container, none). Using Pipework to customise network configuration. Connecting containers across VMs using Open vSwitch. Using containers for application network services sush as proxies, load balancers and for TLS termination Learning Objective 1: Understand how containers relate to the host network, and the consequences that has for services running within containers Learning Objective 2: Understand the different ways that containers can be networked and internetworked. Learning Objective 3: Use containers to run network application services. About the topic: Containers aren’t a new thing, but the Docker project has made them a hot topic as organisations look at new ways to build, ship and run their applications. This brings new challenges for the network as containers are likely to be ten times as numerous as virtual machines. At the same time there is regulatory pressure to move away from the flat LAN model and deliver greater separation and segregation. This presentation will look at how these two forces are coming together, firstly by examining how containers are networked and some of the new approaches and challenges that come with that. This will be followed by a look at how overlay networks are being deployed to achieve ‘microsegmentation’, and ultimately drive a shift towards application centric networking. Of course these forces will collide, bringing us to contained networks of containers.

Docker Engine 1.12 can be rightly called ” A Next Generation Docker Clustering & Distributed System”. Though Docker Engine 1.12 Final Release is around corner but the recent RC3 brings lots of improvements and exciting features. One of the major highlight of this release is Docker Swarm Mode which provides powerful yet optional ability to create coordinated groups of decentralized Docker Engines. Swarm Mode combines your engine in swarms of any scale. It’s self-organizing and self-healing. It enables infrastructure-agnostic topology. The newer version democratizes orchestration with out-of-box capabilities for multi-container on multi-host app deployments.

Since its first 1.12 release on July 2016, Docker Swarm Mode has matured enough as a clustering and scheduling tool for IT administrators and developers who can easily establish and manage a cluster of Docker nodes as a single virtual system. Swarm mode integrates the orchestration capabilities of Docker Swarm into Docker Engine itself and help administrators and developers with the ability to add or subtract container iterations as computing demands change. With sophisticated but easy to implement features like built-in Service Discovery, Routing Mesh, Secrets, declarative service model, scaling of the services, desired state reconciliation, scheduling, filters, multi-host networking model, Load-Balancing, rolling updates etc. Docker 17.06 is all set for production-ready product today. Join me webinar organised by Docker Izmir, to get familiar with the current Swarm Mode capabilities & functionalities across the heterogeneous environments.

Heather Hedden, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, presented “The Role of Taxonomy and Ontology in Semantic Layers” at a webinar hosted by Progress Semaphore on April 16, 2024. Taxonomies at their core enable effective tagging and retrieval of content, and combined with ontologies they extend to the management and understanding of related data. There are even greater benefits of taxonomies and ontologies to enhance your enterprise information architecture when applying them to a semantic layer. A survey by DBP-Institute found that enterprises using a semantic layer see their business outcomes improve by four times, while reducing their data and analytics costs. Extending taxonomies to a semantic layer can be a game-changing solution, allowing you to connect information silos, alleviate knowledge gaps, and derive new insights. Hedden, who specializes in taxonomy design and implementation, presented how the value of taxonomies shouldn’t reside in silos but be integrated with ontologies into a semantic layer. Learn about: - The essence and purpose of taxonomies and ontologies in information and knowledge management; - Advantages of semantic layers leveraging organizational taxonomies; and - Components and approaches to creating a semantic layer, including the integration of taxonomies and ontologies

Discord is a free app offering voice, video, and text chat functionalities, primarily catering to the gaming community. It serves as a hub for users to create and join servers tailored to their interests. Discord’s ecosystem comprises servers, each functioning as a distinct online community with its own channels dedicated to specific topics or activities. Users can engage in text-based discussions, voice calls, or video chats within these channels. Understanding Discord Servers Discord servers are virtual spaces where users congregate to interact, share content, and build communities. Servers may revolve around gaming, hobbies, interests, or fandoms, providing a platform for like-minded individuals to connect. Communication Features Discord offers a range of communication tools, including text channels for messaging, voice channels for real-time audio conversations, and video channels for face-to-face interactions. These features facilitate seamless communication and collaboration. What Does NSFW Mean? With more memory available, system performance of three Dell devices increased, which can translate to a better user experience Conclusion When your system has plenty of RAM to meet your needs, you can efficiently access the applications and data you need to finish projects and to-do lists without sacrificing time and focus. Our test results show that with more memory available, three Dell PCs delivered better performance and took less time to complete the Procyon Office Productivity benchmark. These advantages translate to users being able to complete workflows more quickly and multitask more easily. Whether you need the mobility of the Latitude 5440, the creative capabilities of the Precision 3470, or the high performance of the OptiPlex Tower Plus 7010, configuring your system with more RAM can help keep processes running smoothly, enabling you to do more without compromising performance.
