2. Introduction:
Bacteriophages:
• viruses that infect bacteria.
• cannot replicate or propagate outside
their host (bacteria)
Mycobacteriophages:
• Viruses that infect a specific type of
bacteria (mycobacteria genus)
• Harmless agents:
• Mycobacterium smeggmatis
• Infectious disease agents:
• Mycobacterium tuberculosis
• Mycobacterium leprae
Mycobacteriophages are a potential
alternative in the treatment of bacterial
infections and related diseases: phage
therapy.
