1. Age: The age of the mother is an important factor during
pregnancy. Women under the age of 17 and over the
age of 35 are at greater risk for complications during
pregnancy. The risk of miscarriage and genetic defects
further increases after the age of 40
2. Preexisting medical conditions: A mother's health also
plays a significant role in determining a fetus’ health.
For example, a family history of genetic disorders can
play an important role in high-risk pregnancies.
Similarly, past miscarriages or complications with
previous pregnancies significantly increase the odds of
a high-risk pregnancy.
