Pratomsuksa 4-6 Boy Students (Age 10-12 Years) . Master Thesis, M.Sc.

The purpose of this research was to study the effect of Thai traditional games on
motor fitness of Pratomsuksa 4-6 boy students (age 10-12 years). Sixty participants were
randomly selected and equally allocated into 2 groups. The first group was the control
group, consisting of 30 students who studied a regular physical education. The second
group was the experimental group in which the other 30 students performed the training
program of Thai traditional games that was constructed by the researcher and approved by
5 experts. These participants trained for 8 weeks, 3 days per week, and 1 hour per day.
The motor fitness testing of Japan Amateur Sport Association (JASA) was performed by all
participants before training and after the 4th
and 8th
week of the training. The collected data
were calculated for means and standard deviations; and statistically analyzed by t-test, one-
way ANOVA with repeated measures, and Bonferroni pos hoc test. The statistical
significance was at p≤ 0.05 level.
The results were as follows ;
1. After the 8th
week of training, the mean of standing long jump, sit-ups, push-
ups, time shuttle run, and 5 minutes distance run of the participants in the experimental
group were 155.93, 19.33, 29.33, 37.97, and 770.00, respectively. When calculated as
percentage of progression, these values were 8.19, 3.14, 4.73, 8.09, and 14.87,
respectively
2. There were no significant differences between the control and experimental
group for the motor fitness before training and after the 4th
and 8th
week of training.
3. When comparing the motor fitness within the experimental and control groups,
they were found that there were significant differences ( p≤ 0.05) of the mean of standing
long jump,
sit – ups, push-ups, time shuttle run and 5 minutes distance run between before training
and after the 8th
week of training.
7. The results of this study indicated that both the regular physical education
activities and the training with Thai traditional games for 8 weeks can enhance motor
fitness , long jump, sit ups, push ups, time shuttle run and 5 minutes distance run of the
students .Therefore, Thai traditional games can be alternated in the physical education
program for developing motor fitness in Pratomsuksa students.
