How to prepare a resume for Gulf jobs & Middle East jobs
Middle East, especially UAE and the rest of GCC countries is one of the most developing
regions in the whole world and the job opportunities created are countless. UAE (Dubai,
Sharjah & Abu Dhabi), Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and other Arab countries
draws millions of job applicants from all over the world. The diversity is so vast that, your CV
could be read by an Emirati in one company, an Indian from the second company or someone
from UK, Philippines or Australia in other companies. Their mindset varies but they all look for

What to include?
1) Name, Telephone number and Email address
Include your Full Name in bold so that the recruiter reads your name first, followed by your
telephone number and email address. Telephone number should include the country code as
well; you never know who would call you from any other gulf countries. Email address should
be simple, if you don’t have a simple email address, please make one right away. Avoid fancy
email addresses like example007j@gmail.com or gulfjobseeker@yahoo.com . Remember your
email address reflects your personality too.
2) Photograph, Nationality and Marital Status
A photograph is a big MUST for Middle East job applications. The recruiter wants to see who
you are. The photograph should be taken in a studio with a solid background (grey or blue
color is most recommended). You should be in formal attire (light color shirt, neatly knot tie and
a blazer/suit) in the photograph. Upper chest and above is the best posture. Remember to
smile. Nobody wants to recruit someone who doesn’t know to smile to their colleagues and
boss. Mention your nationality clearly in the resume. People from more than 150 countries work
in the Middle East. As the number of localities is very less in number, the recruiters always look
for where you come from. Marital status is very crucial too. Some companies might not want to
allow bringing your spouse along with you, as it costs them a lot for visa charges and
accommodation. Marital status in the resume helps the recruiter and company get a better idea
about you and how to engage with you in future.

2. 3) Age, Gender and Date of Birth
Yes, You need to mention your Date of Birth as well as age. Some specific job positions would
be for candidates within a particular age window, example 29-33. So mentioning your resume
would put you in the eyes of the right recruiter. Date of Birth will come handy for the company
when they file for your visa and get your offer letter. So seeing the Date of Birth would give a
mental satisfaction for the employer. Some jobs are only for men and some only for women. So
including gender in your resume would be an added advantage.

4) Availability to join and references
All employers wants to know how early could the candidates join. Companies mostly don’t
consider anyone beyond 2 months’ notice period unless it’s a very niche skillset. Anyone who
can join immediately or maximum within a month are the most preferred candidates. Authentic
references would give your profile strong credibility. Mention a maximum of two references
with their name, company name, designation, phone number and email id. Nothing more ,
nothing less. However if you do not wish to reveal the references names initially, you could
mention ‘References available upon request’.
5) Visa status/Visa type and Expiry date
Mention the type of visa you are currently on – tourist, visit visa, employment visa etc. Make
sure to mention the expiry date of the visa too. May Middle East employers tend to process
your application towards the last days of your visa expiry.
6) Passport number and Expiry date
Mention your passport number and expiry date. All employers would need to have your
passport valid at least for the next 6 months in order to process the visa. So mentioning
the expiry date would help you gain recruiter’s attention.
7) Font and font size in the resume
Use professional fonts such as Times New Roman or Arial. Do not use fancy fonts. Also,
all the text in the resume should have the same font. You can highlight your key features
in bold but never use multiple fonts in the same resume.

3. 8) Employment History, country of employment
Mention your employment history in chronological order. Give a brief note of your
responsibilities in each position of every company you have worked with. Given the
trend that Gulf employers look for Gulf work-experience, do mention the country of all
your employment. If your previous work-experience is in any of the Gulf countries, do
highlight it.
9) Education history and attestation status
Mention your education history with courses undertaken and year of graduation. Most
of the Gulf countries and Middle East employers would require your educational
certificates to be attested by the Embassy. If your educational certificates are attested, do
mention that in the resume. If your attestation is in progress, do mention that as well.
10) Driver’s license status and Language skills
If you have driving license for any of the GCC or Arab countries, do mention that in
your resume. International license is also acceptable in Gulf countries. Candidates who
possess GCC driving license or international driving license are likely to get upto 30%
more compensation than the ones who do not have one.

11) Current salary and expected salary
Mention your current CTC in your resume. It’s advisable to leave expected salary
column as ‘As per company standards’.
