The client is one of the biggest names in
the global hospitality industry with extensive
hotel properties across the globe.
In order to keep up with the day-to-day
challenges inherent in managing more
than 100,000 employees spread out in
different countries, the client needed to
upgrade its current PeopleSoft Human
Capital Management (HCM) system so
that it can leverage the new HR and payroll
related web functionalities of the latest
version.
However, the client’s multiple hotel
properties and custom row level security
made the upgrade process more complex
than usual. Some of its hotels were union
hotels while some were not. And it had
several hotel properties that operated as
independent business units – with different
business rules and processes – while
still technically being part of the same
corporation.
The challenge was to perform the PeopleSoft
HCM upgrade while incorporating all of the
various business rules, with zero to minimal
disruptions to the client’s day-to-day business
operations.

After assessing the client’s project requirements,
Astute recommended its proprietary 90-day
Accelerated Upgrade Methodology and:
• Configured the system to incorporate
all business rules specific to the various
business units and implemented the
upgrade ahead of schedule.
• Included two test moves prior to the
production move. Cutover plans were
tested as part of the test moves
and made ready for the final move to
production.
• Addressed and resolved all issues that
arose during the upgrade in a timely
and efficient manner.
• Leveraged its offshore resources to
deliver the project ahead of schedule
and as a result, was able to incorporate
additional functionalities without any
changes to timelines.
