  3. VSP doctors get to know you and your eyes, keeping you healthy year after year. They want you to be their patient for life. VSP doctors take the time to get to know you and that helps them deliver the right care for you. You get a WellVision Exam from a VSP doctor. This exam is more than just a “quick check” of the eyes. They take their time to carefully look for eye problems and other health conditions. VSP doctors always accept new VSP patients. Our doctors are private-practice optometrists and ophthalmologists credentialed to the highest standards, so you get the best care you need and deserve. VSP doctors provide exceptional eyecare and eyewear. So you’ll get an exam and eyewear in one convenient location, from a doctor you trust.
  4. Your benefits with a VSP doctor include: Thorough eye exam every 12 months Prescription glasses: Lenses every 12 months Frame every other calendar year Or, a contacts instead of glasses every year. VSP also offers value-added discounts and savings: Savings on lens options Discounts on additional pairs of glasses and contact lens exams Laser vision correction discounts Let’s review your benefits with a VSP doctor more fully.
  5. When you visit a VSP doctor, your eye exam is covered every 12 months after you pay your $10 copay. Routine eye exams can help you see better and detect a number of serious health conditions, including glaucoma, cataracts and diabetes. Eye exams for kids can spot problems that can impact learning and development. An eye exam from a VSP doctor typically includes: A review of your medical and eye health history to find out if you’re at risk for any eye health conditions. An evaluation of the health of your eyes and how well you can focus. A peripheral vision test. At the end of your exam, your doctor will discuss the condition of your eyes and explain what treatment or corrective eyewear you might need.
  6. Every 12 months, your lenses are covered in full after you pay your $25 copay. This includes plastic or glass single vision, lined bifocal and lined trifocal lenses. Also, polycarbonate lenses are covered in full for children. Additional lenses and options may also be covered by your plan. Check your benefit summary for details. You have a $130 allowance to choose any frame you want every other calendar year. Also, VSP doctors offer a 20% discount on any out-of-pocket costs.
  7. When you choose contacts instead of glasses, you’ll have a $130 allowance to use every 12 months toward the cost of your contacts and the contact lens exam, or “fitting and evaluation.” This exam is in addition to your vision exam and ensures proper fit of your contacts. If you already wear contacts, you may qualify for a contact lens program that includes a covered-in-full contact lens evaluation and initial supply of replacement lenses in a variety of wear schedules, including: Conventional One- to two-week disposable Extended wear Planned replacement To participate, you must already wear soft contact lenses from VSP’s list of the most popular brands available (list available on vsp.com). Talk to your VSP network doctor to find out if you qualify. This program is based on a $120 contact lens allowance, but you can still participate if your allowance is less. Simply pay your VSP network doctor the difference between your allowance and $120 at the time of your contact lens exam.
  8. As a VSP member, you’re eligible for extra discounts and savings when you visit a VSP doctor. As much as 30% in savings on popular lens options, such as scratch-resistant and anti-reflective coatings, progressive lenses and many others. 20% percent off additional pairs of prescription glasses, including sunglasses.
