What is Water?
Pure water has no color, no taste and no smell.
Water is transparent and it reflects light.
Water makes a good solvent with sugar and salt
dissolving in it.
Water that is safe for drinking is called potable water.

About 97% of the water on the Earth's surface is
in the world's oceans. and 2% is frozen in
glaciers and polar ice caps.
This is where you can find most of the other 3%:
•Lakes
•Rivers
•Polar ice caps
•Clouds
•Rain
•Stored in rocks (aquifers)
•Sea ice
Where Can We Get Water?

Why Do We Need Water?
To carry nutrients and waste in the body.
To Keep houses and communities clean.
Essential for the healthy growth of farm crops and farm stock and is
used in the manufacture of many products.
To cool the body, especially during periods of physical activity.
All plants and animals must have water to survive

How Much Water Do We Need?
Most people need about 6-8 glasses of water each day.
Inadequate fluid intake can lead to constipation and dehydration.
Athletes should drink additional amounts before, during and after
exercise.
