2. What is Hinkley Point C (HPC)?
• The first new nuclear power station to be built in the UK in
over 20 years
• HPC will provide low-carbon electricity for around
6m homes, create thousands of jobs and bring lasting
benefits to the UK economy
• 25,000 employment opportunities
• 1,000 apprenticeships
• 64% of the project’s construction value is predicted to go
to UK companies.
• Revitalising the nuclear power industry, HPC will make a
major contribution to the UK’s move to reduce carbon
emissions.
• The electricity generated by its two EPR reactors will offset
9m tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year, or 600
million tonnes over its 60-year lifespan.

Award of the evening!
524 Young People are now
signed up to the Young HPC
programme. In September we
have held 12 Outreach events
including Taunton, Clevedon
and Bridgwater JCP drop-in
sessions.

A 'day in the life' on HPC
We have created a new series of
videos for Young HPC social media
that focus on Team HPC and their
daily life whilst working on the
project.
The first video went live on 21st
September and has already been
viewed over 3,000 times. Make sure

Nuclear Engineer Degree
Apprentices deliver
presentation to MoD
Submarine Division
On Thursday 15th September, five
members of our NEDA cohort delivered a
virtual presentation to 60x MoD
Submarine Division Nuclear Apprentices.
The aim of the presentation was to
educate other apprentices across the UK
on a range of nuclear job roles and The
apprentices delivered an incredible
presentation followed by a Q&A session on
the nuclear industry. The event was given
high praise form the MoD.
The MoD Submarine Division will be
attending a Site Tour in January where we
hope to introduce them to the NEDA
apprentices in person.
Taking Social Media by
storm!
Last month saw our best
performing month on Instagram.
The ’tools of the trade’ Reel had our
highest number of plays yet (7,905) and
highest number of likes (226)
Travis’ (Bylor Digital Engineer
Apprentice) Story had our highest
impressions for a Story yet (2,966)
Anna’s (EDF Civil Engineer Degree
Apprentice) story generated our
highest number of profile visits too
(17).

ICE Apprentice of the Year
Anna Gates EDF and Travis Redfern
BYLOR are both finalists for the ICE
apprentice of the year awards. A huge
well done to both for getting this far and
wish you the best of luck at the award
ceremony.
HPC Apprentice Conference
The second apprentice conference will
be taking place at Cannington Court on
the 12th October. Bookings are now
open and will be allocated on a first
come first serve basis. Over 120
Apprentices are already booked in to
attend.

Work is underway to secure placements
across the Project for the 22/23 intake of T
Level learners. Throughout 2022 we have
welcomed 5 learners to HPC so
far. Throughout the summer we have been
liaising with Weston and Yeovil Colleges as
well as Bridgwater & Taunton College to
ensure we are also reaching the North and
South of Somerset for the new academic
year.
Supported Traineeships
There has been a fantastic response to our
request for placements across the Project.
We have 12 placements to choose from for
our 6 vetted Trainees, who will be starting
their training at the National College for
Nuclear on the 12th September.

HSO Bronze Recruitment is live on the HPC Jobs Service: The Jobs Service (edfenergy.com)
Hinkley Support Operative
(HSO) Bronze Training
As at the end of August 22, 70 people
had completed the HSO Bronze
programme, with 29 of these starting
employment. 26 are now employed on
the Project across multiple employers. A
further 10 have offers in progress and are
awaiting vetting and start dates.
The next cohort commences in mid-
September with the new round of HSO
candidates hoping to gain employment
with the Project!
Centres of Excellence
Bridgwater & Taunton College have been
appointed as the Managing Agent to run
all 3 Centres & utilisation is ramping up
with:
Welding = 108 ECITB Technical Tests + use
by 50 Apprentices + 29 Skills Bootcamp
participants (Sept 21/Aug 22)
Electrical = 4 x HSO Bronze Training
courses plus fit out underway for HSO
Silver
Mechanical = practical completion of
building (handover from Berry & Escott to
BTC) with fit out planned over the coming
months
