Static charges on unwinds of web processing machines
Problem
Electrostatic charges are common on unwinds, due to the process of separation of the web at the unwinder.
The surface voltage can be as much as ±50 kV, or even higher. This may hamper the process ahead, or
create operator hazard, or pose the risk of fire, etc. Hence it is important to eliminate static charges.
Solution
Valstat
®
VS 20 (up to 300 m/min) or Valstat
®
VR 20 (up to 1200 m/min) AC static eliminating bars provide an
effective solution in nullifying the effect of static charges in this application. It is recommended to install two
static eliminating bars on the web path after unwinder as shown in the schematic above.
Optionally, Valstat
®
VR 80 long range DC static eliminating bars are now available for low and high speed
applications.
