- On May 31, 2002, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced that all child care centers and family day care homes participating in the Child and Adult Care Food Program must offer Program meals to all eligible children who are enrolled for care in their facilities. Centers may not avoid this obligation by stating that the infants are not enrolled in CACFP or by citing a cost barrier to offering an infant meal. If you care for infants during meals service periods, you must offer infant meals that meet Program requirements. As with any child in your center, an infant’s parent may decline what is offered and supply the infant’s meals instead. The key factor is that the infant must be provided access to CACFP meals.
