Gandhi and Mandela both fought against colonial rule in their respective countries through nonviolent means. Gandhi led movements in India to achieve independence from British rule through non-cooperation and civil disobedience. Mandela fought against apartheid in South Africa and spent many years imprisoned as a political prisoner before becoming the first president of a democratic South Africa after the end of apartheid. Both men used nonviolent action and civil disobedience to achieve political change and unite their nations.
